Elections are a lot like pot-luck dinners.
When one plans a potluck, there are many things to consider, beyond the individual tastes of the invitees.

First you have to publicize the potluck itself, and invite people.

Since a potluck's success depends on having a LOT of various & sundry foods, it's crucial to draw up some sort of "game plan" so that every0one has enough choices & the foods are varied.

On a side note, every year I organize a HUGE potluck for my bowling league. We have 40 teams, with 5 per team. Every team is responsible for:

1 main dish
1 side dish (veggie)
1 salad
1 dessert
and 1 person (usually a single guy:).) brings paper plates, napkins & plastic eating utensils

They have to bring enough to feed all five of them. All the food is put out on many long buffet tables, and all 200+ people have plenty of wonderful things to eat, and there are always lots of leftovers...

Voting only really works for us all, when we ALL do our part. Sometimes we may not like some of the "main dishes", and we may turn up our nose at the lima bean salad, or the store bought pizza, but as long as EVERYONE brings something, there will definitely be something we all can enjoy..

Now imagine that only the napkin & paper plate people showed up.
