Phelps Clan Pickets Falwell Funeral
more @ link: http://www.365gay.com/Newscon07/05/052207falwell.htm

(Lynchburg, Virginia) About a half dozen members of a Kansas church that denounces homosexuality protested Tuesday afternoon at the funeral of evangelist Jerry Falwell.

The members of Westboro Baptist Church carried placards accusing Falwell of being in league with gays and of cozying up to Israel.

The church, which operates the GodHatesFags Web site, had warned Lynchburg police in advance they were coming.

On its site Westboro, run by Rev. Fred Phelps, called Falwell, a "corpulent false prophet" and said he"spent his entire life prophesying lies and false doctrines like 'God loves everyone.'"

In attacking Falwell the church says he "warmly praised Christ-rejecting Jews, pedophile-condoning Catholics, money-grubbing compromisers, practicing fags like Mel White (of Souflorce), and backsliders like Billy Graham and Robert Schuler, etc."

7. What will we do once Fred and his fellow travellers shuffle off their mortal coils?
What shall we do without the words of wisdom from the Focus on the Family Dude and the pancake one who owns the diamond mine? O, how shall the senile be bilked without the 700 Club and PTL to guide their checks?

Oh, there is a new crop in the making, I'm sure, but I do so miss the old school healings and glossalalia, though. Perhaps a public snake handling will soon be presented.

12. haha
thats good stuff.
weird to get joy from two people i care none for. i wrote phelps once just to let him know i was glad he was using small children in his protests...because it showed how WEAK his movement was.

its weird, i happened upon a christian radon station earlier today... i listened for a while because i like to see what the flock is learning for todays lesson.... and you know the host pretty much said the same thing about other christians... that the whole 'love everybody' notion is wrong and that the bible clearly says thats(in one way or another). and not because you are gay, or use drugs, or cheat on your wife, or a pedophile, or whatever it is that you do..but rather because we are all sinners and god ...and i quote... "Hates sinners" and apparently says so a few times in the bible....
so therefor, unless you have given your soul and life to god and asked for forgiveness for the awful human things that you do... ur gonna burn in hell...cause we are all guilty and hated by god unless we beg for it to be otherwise.

it was odd, cause i did kinda agree with some of the notions he had...
he went on to call out fake christians saying 'just because you go sit in church on sunday doesn't make you religious or forgiven' and said that you didnt have to go church to get forgiveness or worship (which is weird hearing an evangelist say frankly)

it made for an interesting car ride home, i must say...
mostly because i had just smoke copious amounts of marijuana tho, id imagine. ;)

p.s.
iamthebandfanman in noway endorses smoking pot and driving ;)

Edited on Tue May-22-07 11:22 PM by philosophie_en_rose
Phelps mocking Falwell is as if Jeffrey Dahmer mocked Ted Bundy, because Bundy didn't eat people. It doesn't make Ted Bundy any less gruesome, but it certainly makes Dahmer look like a freaking ghoul.

Falwell was a corpulent false prophet, but attacking him for not being hateful enough is laughable.

And if God doesn't love everyone, why the hell would he love Phelps?

a necessity. He may crawl out and start back with his crap again if they forgot the stake. The second time around is always so gruesome, but watching them eat their own is a refreshing change to the norm. As long as they are hating on each other, they are not directing it toward the GLBT community.

40. Just my 2 cents, but I think that the use of whale shit
was a perfectly appropriate metaphor to use given the subject. After all, whale shit will sink a whole lot lower than snake shit can ever hope to, even if the snake's butt was held out over the Grand Canyon.

46. Well not so....
it is eaten or disintegretes before it hits bottom. If it were sea floor worms, ok. Whales are sky creatures-if the sea were compared to the land-citations stands, fine set at 5 good deeds (that is giving you credit for the snake butt held over the Grand Canyon-nice visual).

This Phelps guy cannot be for real. It's so much political theater. Not sure what it's for: to create sympathy for a snake oil salesman that could put Elmer Gantry to shame or to delegitimize him, but either way, it's not for real.

47. Wow the Irony
One difference is, to me it's obvious, Phelps is extremely mentally ill. I mean really, go to his site if you don't mind giving it "hits". The man is a stark raving lunatic and this comes from someone who is not just certifiable but actually certified...me. It's also my field of study. The man sounds less sane than some schizophrenic friends I have. Truly. No one thinks of him as credible.

Falwell, people actually listened to and followed. Phelp's entire church is make up of three intermarrying families. I think they suffer from folie a deux, which literally means "folly of two" but in the field of psychology it can be more than two and means a shared delusion. It is rare but really happens. Falwell had a facade of respectability among his ilk. Even most of the RW know that Phelps is a really sick man.

In other words, I think of Falwell as more dangerous.

...but I do love the irony of Falwell being picketed by a thundering loon of the RW fundies. That is just too funny.
