1. No point if the democrats still hold the majority after the fact

He was given a committee chairmanship to caucus democrat. He would lose that unless 4 others jumped with him to get the GOP to 51.

If self-interest is the presumed motive for his actions then expect him to stay put.

2. Interesting thought (to me at least)

McMahon may run again in 2012. She felt she ran against a stronger opponent (Blumenthal) and believes if she runs against LIEberman he will have a harder time siphoning off Republican votes.
I read in a few places if she got at least 45% of the GE vote she would consider it.
Don't know if she will -- But LIEberman jumping to the republicans may have ended with her
