Reid says, "It's a lot more than the President ever expected he'd have to agree to."
What Reid is saying, in effect...

We're making progress .. just give us more time....

Gee, where have I heard that before???

The Dems who continue to cave to the administration are more concerned with political posturing than standing up for what's right.  They don't know how to 'frame' the argument because they're too concerned with what it looks like and not because of the burning passion for the principles this party is supposed to stand for.

In one of her articles, Molly Ivans (bless you Molly!!!) said...

"The recent death of Gene McCarthy reminded me of a lesson I spent a long, long time unlearning, so now I have to re-learn it. It’s about political courage and heroes, and when a country is desperate for leadership. There are times when regular politics will not do, and this is one of those times. There are times a country is so tired of bull that only the truth can provide relief. If no one in conventional-wisdom politics has the courage to speak up and say what needs to be said, then you go out and find some obscure junior senator from Minnesota with the guts to do it. In 1968, Gene McCarthy was the little boy who said out loud, “Look, the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes.” Bobby Kennedy—rough, tough Bobby Kennedy—didn’t do it. Just this quiet man trained by Benedictines who liked to quote poetry."

......

"I listen to people like Rahm Emanuel explaining elementary politics to us clueless naifs outside the Beltway (“First, you have to win elections”). Can’t you even read the damn polls?"

...

Bush, Cheney and Co. will continue to play the patriotic bully card just as long as you let them. War brings out the patriotic bullies. In World War I, they went around kicking dachshunds on the grounds that dachshunds were “German dogs.” They did not, however, go around kicking German Shepherds. The MINUTE someone impugns your patriotism for opposing this war, turn on them like a snarling dog and explain what loving your country really means. That, or you could just piss on them elegantly, as Rep. John Murtha did. Or eviscerate them with wit (look up Mark Twain on the war in the Philippines). Or point out the latest in the endless “string of bad news.” So, don’t sit there cowering and pretending the only way to win is as Republican-lite. If the Washington-based party can’t get up and fight, we’ll find someone who can."

----------

And dammit... we WILL find someone who can!!!!!

2. Yeah, Bush never thought that Dems would bend over this far
Bush thought he would have to give at least a little. But no. Reid/Hoyer gave him so much more than Bush could ever wish to receive.

3. We Have No Leaders and No Leadership In the Senate
And that includes she who would be the Leader of the Free World.

4. The Roman Party continues for the Bush Administration
Just a little bump in the road with the Democrats for Bushco, but they are easy enough to drive past. Just ignore them. Tell them you won't pass their bills. Ignore their subpoenas. Lie to them.

You will get away with it. Because they don't have what it takes to do the right thing, and Bushco never wanted to right thing in the first place, so it all works out just great.

I am ashamed of the weak Democrats we have. They are either too stupid or too weak to be in the positions they are in. I had hoped there was some plan, or they had something up their sleeves, but no, they just talk tough but when it comes to putting their foot down, they cave in.

And the losers? The American people. Again. We have no representation.

5. Note to Harry:

bush ignores what he doesn't like or reinterprets it in signing statements to suit his own ends. He believes the executive branch has no checks. It's called "unitary executive" theory. Catch a clue.

6. Big freakin' hairy deal, Harry
Bush's insane expectations were nurtured by years of New England Ivy League dream dust up his nose, washed down by some real southern comfort.

The Americans & Iraqis who are mourning their dead & maimed have a lot of expectations too.

Change the Dem party symbol from an ass to a jellyfish.
