Officials Describe Interference by Former Gonzales Aide

By Dan Eggen and Carol D. Leonnig
Washington Post Staff Writers
Wednesday, May 23, 2007; A04

When Jeffrey A. Taylor, interim U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, wanted to hire a new career prosecutor last fall, he had to run the idea past Monica M. Goodling, then a 33-year-old aide to Attorney General Alberto R. Gonzales.

The candidate was Seth Adam Meinero, a Howard University law school graduate who had worked on civil rights cases at the Environmental Protection Agency and had served as a special assistant prosecutor in Taylor's office.

Goodling stalled the hiring, saying that Meinero was too "liberal" for the nonpolitical position, said according to two sources familiar with the dispute.

The tussle over Meinero, who was eventually hired at Taylor's insistence, led to a Justice Department investigation of whether Goodling improperly weighed political affiliation when reviewing applicants for rank-and-file prosecutor jobs, the sources said.

2. is Goodling going to become Rove's "blue dress"?
I think she has the potential to play that sort of role, depends how much she fears being ostracized by the entire far-right vs how much she fears being vilified throughout history (or other prosecutions which could be pursued if she lies under oath and thus loses her immunity.)

and then go on to break federal hiring rules in a job she had no business accepting. She's a liar and a criminal and I hope she spends a long time behind bars.

48. Indeed!
I read the article--the positions this woman has held in recent years and the responsibilities she was charged with were not appropriate for her. The woman graduated law school in 1999, had six months of prosecutorial experience...she's a year younger than I am and has already held positions that I associate with being held by people 20 years older than I am!

Hate to say it, but the first thing that came to my mind was "Who's she been sleeping with?" Geez!

12. Here was the core of her 'mistake':
"All I ever wanted to do was serve this president, this administration, this department," Goodling tearfully told a senior Justice official shortly before she quit..."

There is where she f_ked up.
She forgot that it is the USA citizens she was suppose to serve.

11. More on, or, moron Monica Goodling

---

Transcripts released late Tuesday revealed Goodling sobbed uncontrollably at great length when the controversy began to swirl around her.

In a previously undisclosed House Judiciary Committee interview, a veteran career Justice Department attorney testified Goodling had come to his office and couldn't stop crying.

"She proceeded for the next, it seemed like forever, but it was probably only about 30 or 45 minutes, to bawl her eyes out and say, 'All I ever wanted to do was serve this president and this administration and this department,' " Associate Deputy Attorney David Margolis said.

"My goal was to try to calm her, so I gave her some advice to calm her -- calm her down, which didn't work," Margolis said.

"I tried to make her laugh, which didn't work, and to give her some personal advice, which she didn't take," Margolis said.

---

She screws up the Justice Department and in turn screws the country and all she can do is cry like a little baby.

30 to 45 minutes?
HOLY CRAP!!!!!

26. I See Her More As A Rosemary Woods
My Watergate memory at work here...

Mrs. Alito's "rain storm" was during a confirmation hearing...and she wasn't testifying. Ms. Goodling may strike a sympathetic figure, but her words will be what endure.

Of course the Mighty Wurltizer will attempt to portray her as some weak young thing...but if she blurt out something that embarasses or hurt this regime, watch that characterization change quickly.

21. She was crying for herself
because she knows the people she works for and what she herself has been guilty of doing as well - that is, when the "fit hits the shan" you blame a fall-guy and let them hang in the wind. She had 30-40 minutes of visions of herself hanging alone in a typhoon.
