Pubbie Pal Asks: When do we stop blaming Bush and start blaming Obama? |
|
To which I reply:
Well, we can’t bring back all the lives lost to a terrorist attack that happened on his watch, and we can’t take back the human suffering due to Bush’s wholesale murder of over 4000 American soldiers "in response"… We can’t take back the lies he told to us and the rest of the world to get us into a pre-emptive war when there was no real threat… How about when the debt and economic mess he created is gone?
How long do you think it should have taken for Obama to clean up the mess that took well over a decade to create? No doubt it started with the end of the Clinton administration, but it was exacerbated by 8 years of Bush’s raping and pillaging of our economy.
Seriously, Dude, if that’s all you’ve got then we must have the best president EVER right now! Bush set the bar real low, if that’s any comfort to you. Still, Obama would have to rape puppies on the front steps of the White House to compete with that legacy.

7. When will the blame be shared |
|
When will we stop blaming JUST W and the republicans, and include in that blame ALL the politicians who had a hand in ignoring the governments responsibility to protect the people?
What has happened over the last couple decades that ended up in such a mess is just not as simple as some people want to make it. Until people look past the "It's all W's fault" and the "Failed policies of the last 8 years" and look at the whole picture we will never be able to truly fix what was broken.
All I see is band aids and solutions looking for problems. The people in power are doing nothing to look for root causes and have discussions about real solutions that will not only fix what is broken but prevent this from ever happening.
We need real reform of many of the things our government does, and we are not getting it.

12. It has nothing to do with blame |
|
The current economic situations is a result of forces that began coalescing long before Obama took office. This is simply a fact. Recognizing that fact is necessarry in understanding where we are at and how to proceed from here.
The republicans and tea partiers want a simple answer, like cut taxes for the wealthy so they can create jobs. There are no simple answers.
But, since they want a simple answer, to your friend I would say, "We'll stop blaming him when it stops being his fault."

I have a theory. I think some heinous creatures, knowing they shouldn't be allowed to mix with the public because of their horrid thoughts and inclinations in the hope that it keeps them from doing their dirty deeds. Hence some pedophiles become priests, and some womanizers become televangelists;)
What evil do you suppose pushes these people to politics?

He's actually pretty good about debating things. When I first started talking politics with him back in... gosh... 1999 or 2000, he was a total Bush apologist. He's seen a little light since then;) He knows I won't talk to him if he gets ugly or dismissive. A couple of his pals are full on TeaBaggers though! Ugh...

Sanity... Continuing the Patriot Act. Continuing Warrantless Wiretapping. Amping up the War In Afghanistan. CIA Death Squads. Continuing the Bailouts. Yes these are all the actions of a person trying to undo what Bush did.
You know instead of calling everyone you disagree with crazy maybe you ought to take a look at what people are actually saying. Or are you saying that now that Obama is in office Warrantless Wiretapping is good. The War in Afghanistan is a plus. Violating the Constitution by ordering the death of a citizen with no trial and no evidence presented is a wonderful thing. Bailing out Wall Street with my tax dollars is a good thing. The Patriot Act is awesome.
The biggest problem with the Democratic party is some of us are not willing to admit that Obama has made some serious mistakes and continued some of Bush's worst policies. Instead we just want everything to be sunshine and rainbows and god forbid someone brings a little rain to the party.
Please, tell me exactly what is crazy about standing up against the Patriot Act, the War in Afghanistan, Warrantless Wiretapping, CIA Death Squads and Drone attacks. I can't wait to hear.

I replied to. This has nothing to do with Obama or you. It has to do with Juniper having a sane conversation with someone with whom she disagrees. And that person doesn't get ugly or dismissive of her in those conversations. Which is certainly more sane than what happens online sometimes.

Perhaps you could start your own thread or something and talk about all those things. Those have no bearing on what Juniper and I are discussing. You might as well have butted in with an announcement about aliens landing in New York. That would have made just as much sense.

How long do you think it should have taken for Obama to set all that straight? What would it take to undo the Patriot Act? I really don't know, I'm asking.
Obama inherited two wars. The war in Iraq is over, and yes, he ramped up Afghanistan the same way it was escalated in Iraq... as a precursor to getting out. I'm not happy about war at all. I don't think there's any benefit in killing people. I hate the fact that Saddam Hussein was murdered... yes, that's just how badly I hate murder/killing. However, I do think there's some sense in being as cautious getting out as we were stupid getting in.
All those things you want him to do... do you have all the information you need to prove that it was doable, and was worthy of pushing other things off the administration's plate? I think there was a giant grocery list of things that needed addressed tout de suite, and others that didn't need the same sense of urgency. Human life is my priority.
TARP was Bush's deal. Obama had zero to do with it... and if you'll notice, a lot of that money has already been paid back. The one smart thing about it was that banks didn't want to be obliged to the gov, so they actually turned things around fairly quickly.
I think the biggest problem with the Democratic Party right now is that a lot of us want to draw absolute lines between supporters and non-supporters, and they are un-accepting of any grey area in between. It reminds me of the presidential primaries... I remember being called a Hillbot and an Obamamaniac in response to the same OP! Perspective is everything, my friend.
