Al Gore, who can't say no, explains: '59 is the new 58'
Posted by Mark Silva at 6:05 am CDT

Al Gore says he's enjoying life.

"Look, I'm 59 years old,'' he says. "59 is the new 58.''

But, for all his insistence that he is not a candidate for president, neither is the former vice president and winner of the popular vote for president in 2000 ready to issue that "Sherman-like'' statement that he will not run in 2008 under any circumstances.

....................

"But that's not to be coy,'' said Gore, suggesting at the same time that it's far too early for anyone to have a fully formed view of the campaign.

"I'm one of those who doesn’t like to see the Christmas goods put in the stores right after Halloween,'' Gore told King. "I don’t think Americans are well-served by having an endless campaign… Why close up the field and say, 'OK, place your bets.' I don’t have to play that game.''

..........

What would Gore do as President in '09:

"I would grab hold of the situation and make an immediate assessment of what the best options were to manage this situation,'' he said, asked how he would confront the problem if he were becoming president in January 2009.

5. Talking truth and sense..
.. that's Al Gore.. my real president.

I'm sorry to say that 2008 will be a bad year for Dems,
due to the fact that the damage caused by Bushinc
will be irreparable, and Dems will get the blame for
everything that goes wrong due to Bush's incalculable
evil.

7. His entering the campaign late COULD HELP us get in meaningful election reform later!
If he can show how he entered in late, got his message across to the American people, got elected, and became recognized later as a fine leader, it will be documented PROOF that we don't NEED these long campaigns and drawn out primary "tours" that only seem to serve those that want to spend a lot of money on candidates and those that receive it, but NOT necessarily the American people!

When we start overhauling the election system, campaign financing, etc. this will be a valuable thing to point back to! All the more reason to support his "late campaign" and not wanting to have to play the "endless game" that others want him to!

12. Gore's "endless campaign" statement was more suggestive...
Then any of his previous won't rule it out comments - that he indeed may jump in the race Fall (ish).

They way I heard it was - WTF do I want to join the race months in advance, spend millions of dollars, and blow my summer on the campaign trail when I can sit back, advance my book, and STILL enter the race in the late innings and WIN!

Of course, that's my "wishful thinking" interpretation of Al's words. :)

13. Go Gore! Endless campaigning is one of our biggest problems.
Everyone needs tons more money and tons more corporate donations to stay alive. Also the campaigning inhibits their ability to do anything daring or "unsafe"!

14. Campaign Reform ASAP!!!
Our tax money could pay for elections, then the corporations would be left out and America would go back into "We The People's" hands like is was meant ot be in the first place!
