3. They covered up Carol Lam prosecuting Medicare Fraud.
Edited on Wed May-23-07 12:16 PM by L. Coyote
Republican questioners sure worked hard to make sure that the Carol Lam firing was blamed on "Coyote" issue. Hee hee

30 U.S. attorneys investigate BILKING BILLIONS, Medicare, Medicaid, Military’s Healthcare
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x877011

US Attorney Firing: Voter Fraud, Medicare Fraud, WHICH IS IT ???
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x853813#873507

And on the Cunningham prosecution, with an emphasis on the timeline not matching. The Medicare Fraud prosecution does match the "Coyote" timeline of stone-throwing at Lam. They started throwing patently false immigration accusations at here when she went after the Republican big donors bilking billions.

13. IMHO this is the elephant in the room ... Carol Lam is just too hot to touch.
It would not be beyond question that there have been threats against both Repubs and Dems if questions are raised about Lam investigating billions of dollars in Medicare/Medicaid fraud.

How can there be a legitimate questioning of Lam's firing without asking these questions?
Answer: There cannot be.

L. Coyote has been all over this, and for good reason. The truth is out there ... who wants to know? And if they do not want to know, why not?

24. They are using Feinstein to reinforce the view that this was about Cunningham
because her letter predates the understanding of the Tenet connection in the Lam firing.

The big cover-up, and we now see which R's in the Committee are complicitous, is still in place. Someone needs to bring up question: "Who all had and when all were there discussions of Carol Lam prosecuting cases herself, and to what extent was her firing related to the Medicare fraud prosecutions?" And not let her evade the question with clever parse-lies.

Edited on Wed May-23-07 12:28 PM by L. Coyote
Tenet hired GOP chair Gillespie as their lobbyist for $360,000 in 2006. And, Carol Lam gets the ax. Check the Sampson timeline:

Day 1. HHS says they will cut off the Medicare faucet to Tenet. The company would have crashed! OHHH. Stock portfolio HELL for R-Pals.
Day 2. Sampson e-mail about Carol Lam "problem right now"

If people can't read this one, I'll make an audio and give it my best howl!!

It's all about the $$BILLIONS$$ and not about the Coyotes!

7. Reposting from #10- There were important differences she testified to today...
There were important differences she testified to today... especially AG and his testimony
She puts AG Gonzales 'in the room' and engaged fully in discussions about who to fire.

She contradicted Kyle Sampson's testimony and attempted to lessen the impact with self-serving statements like 'maybe he forgot'.

She definitely 'threw McNulty under the bus' to save her sorry behind.

She admitted she 'crossed the line' in using politics in making hiring decisions.

She admitted communication with Karl Rove's office, Scott Jennings and Harriett Miers.

There is quite a bit more, but now we have testimony under oath by various officials involved here, and somebody has lied under oath.

In the end, it is a battle for the documents which the White House is withholding.

Unless one of them comes back and changes their testimony, we have different stories regarding the facts of this situation.

questions that are relevant to this hearing. This is too much of the same-old, same-old. Do the members on this board questioning this fluffy little thing really believe they are asking real, relevant questions? Is this the best they can do? It is a poor soap opera and little Monica will be the heroine.

14. I just watched a video clip at TPR Muckrakers
I assume it was from earlier this morning, several hours ago. It showed goodling being questioned by nadler and I was struck by something. Nadler was just making headway with goodling when conyers interupted him by saying his time was up. Nadler looked annoyed. Then conyers said said to goodling, "You may finish your answer, ma'am" in what sounded like a really ingratiating voice. Now, I'm talking appearances here. If I knew little about this case and was watching this exchange. I would assume that conyers was irritaed with nadler's "rough" questioning of little monica and cut him off. His super-polite tone to monica seemed to indicate that he liked/approved of/sympathized with her. I KNOW that this is not reality, but the Dems need to work on PR and get their act together IMHO.

I cannot believe how they just let her slip out of questions by giving indirect answers with her own choice of qualifiers.

They need to hold her feet to the truth fire and say, "You did not answer the question. Please answer the question directly instead of evading the questions. Or your grant of immunity goes out the window."

19. Battle is joined! Will McNulty now spill everything he knows since he's the WH designated scapegoat
I am thinking that McNulty has already filled Chuck Schumer in what really happened, and the White House knows or suspects this is the case.

Now that McNulty has been designated the scapegoat for this, we only have to wait and see what the second highest official in the DOJ knows and what he is willing to disclose.

This is following the same pattern that the 8 US Attorneys were sucked into. Once their competence and performance was listed as the reason for their termination, they came out with guns blazing.

McNulty should do the same thing.... with possible perjury charges to follow.

25. Maxine Waters was on to something but failed to ask THE ??
Waters questioned Goodling about her former work at the RNC's opposition research office, working with Barbara Comstock who is the originator of most of the dirty tricks played on Dems in the last ten years. Goodling was brought over to DoJ by Barbara Comstock. Griffin also worked in that RNC office and was brought over to Comstock's staff at DoJ.

The question that wasn't asked:

"Ms. Goodling, did you ever communicate with Barbara Comstock about hiring or firing of anyone in the Department of Justice after she left DoJ? Did you discuss any DoJ matters with her in written or spoken communication?"

And then, if yes...

"Do you have copies of any communication with Ms. Comstock?"

And then,

"Would it be useful for this committee to interview Ms. Comstock?"

I can predict a seismic shift if Congress could get Comstock under oath.

It seems as if everything is being done for the sake of appearances, to throw some crumbs to the angry masses, hoping that will be enough and we will go away so the politicans can return to "business as normal."

It's enough to make a person puke.

South Texas College of Law. It was damned hard and damned grim.

I can't imagine what kind of crapola they teach at Regent University.

I also got my bachelor's degree at a Christian university. It was Presbyterian, not a bunch of fundies indoctrinating people. The religion department was like an extension of the philosophy department. We had graduates of Harvard and Princeton teaching various religion classes, not indoctrinating us.

He was a graduate of Princeton with a Doctor of Divinity. He could read Greek, Latin, Hebrew, English, Spanish, Amharic, Aramaic, Linear B, and who knows what else. He told us that in divinity school he had to read St. Thomas Aquinas -- in the original Medieval Latin. Wow!!!

I took Latin in high school. They teach us Roman Latin.

97. Well, I'm not a Christian.
I tried Christianity. I got baptised, and prayed and studied and after all that I was still depressed as hell, unemployed and none of these so-called Christians would help me find a job, so I decided it didn't work. Nobody would help me find a job.
I decided that if God works through his people on earth, God wanted me to be unemployed and starve to death, despite three college degrees and lots of experience. God didn't speak to me either. And I don't have time to go to every church around me and find out who is gonna help me. I would starve to death first.

I'm an atheist Unitarian. But I grew up around educated Presbyterians and Episcopalians. I have a lot of respect for them. I can't stand these fundies that get in your face, telling you that you are going to hell unless you believe like they do. And then they wonder why you refuse to speak to them at all. My aunt, who is a Methodist, gave me a commercial for Jesus, and I am never going to speak to her again. I thought Methodists had more sense than that, but apparently she doesn't, and maybe her congregation is fundie.

They never took a Dale Carnegie course in "How to Win Friends and Influence People".
