Just thought of ANOTHER silver lining to these results..Lieberman lost his "neutron bomb" capacity |
|
Ever since he screwed us in 2006, HolyWarJoe has had a standing threat at the ready...
"Ok, you guys don't like me, I'll resign and the REPUBLICAN governor can appoint my successor. How do you like THAT, losers?"
Now, Connecticut has a DEMOCRATIC governor.
Just thought somebody should point that out.

1. He also lost leverage because joining the Repukes won't get him a chair or switch |
|
the balance of power AND he has to decide what he wants to do in 2012...he's outta the Senate, most likely, and he's gotta figure out a way to leave and still have enough credibility (highly unlikely) to try for office again at a later date.

2. Patty Murray's victory helps also |
|
Pushes the Democratic caucus numbers just high enough that Lieberman doesn't have any leverage that way, either.

4. And as a former nutmegger I've got some idea who he'd appoint. |
|
I worked for Malloy the first time he ran for governor. I love him, the man is ruthless with a sense of righteous justice left over from his days as a federal prosecutor. Few people know this but he has sense of humor too. (Outwardly, he's completely deadpan. Always. Very stoic.)
I'd wager that he'd send our former Secretary of State (Byciewicz) to the Senate in a heartbeat, she left the SoS job to run for AG but was DQed because she hasn't litigated in decades. I don't think the Senate GOP is ready for a rough hard-nosed woman who relishes mixing it up with the boys or someone who would read the bills and come prepared for war. She called out the now-past governor to fire the governor's chief-of-staff for a minor violation of fundraising rules on the 5PM news, then refused to let the state ethics commission (which she oversaw) drop the investigation. She's not partisan though, just morally-committed to doing her job well.
