I see it taking shape already. Just from his interview on ABC with Diane Sawyer and then last night with Larry King, it is obvious the media is now out to get him for the truth he speaks in The Assault On Reason. The ABC interview was a waste of time as Diane Sawyer was ignorant, arrogant, and downright harrassing to the man. He even had to make the point that she was following exactly the modus operandi of his book by asking, "see the questions you are asking?", and that being a candidate is not what this book is about as they showed his interview next to a "campaign 08" sign and had the nerve to show pictures of him and make comments about his weight.
Then last night on Larry King, I was disappointed in that the true meaning of this book was totally dissed by Larry King in favor of simply trying to trap Mr. Gore into talking about nothing but politics. And that "King Cam" was not random in my view, and even Mr. Gore knew that by asking if it was. His facial expressions and mannerisms spoke volumes about how uncomfortable he is now talking about politics except in discussing it in regards to how it needs to be changed through grassroots action which wasn't even touched upon and which is exactly what he is now doing. And I believe he was truly hoping to delve deeper into the true link between the demise of Democracy and our environment as well and how they are linked, but hounding him about 08 again as the only banner going across the screen the entire interview was for the umpteenth time, "Will Gore Run For President?" which seems to be what the people want to dish about as opposed to actually making them think was considered the priority. Not, "Can this Democracy be saved?", or, "Will the people find their collective moral compass and stand up together as our Founders did?" Just the same old redundant spiel.
I did however, appreciate Mr. Gore's remarks on New Orleans because it is a downright DISGRACE that 21 months after Hurricane Katrina many areas STILL LOOK THE SAME with a forecast for this hurricane season that casts in doubt once again the ability of the levees to hold should another one of even a number three magnitude strike again. However, this does not seem to illicit broad outrage anymore, which again goes back to his book. I also appreciated the comments he did get to make about our Founding Fathers and the current lack of intellect on matters of reason that has been supplanted by Britney Spear's haircut, Lindsay Lohan or whoever in rehab, "Brangelina," or now the big new story, why Joey Buttafuoco is back with Amy Fisher. Like I give a damn about that over the global water crisis and how this Earth is now deteriorating as I type this. Oh, but that isn't as important as harrassing a good man who has done all of this simply because he cares about this country and this planet and wants to wake us up to do what he has done. Let's just continue to depict him as a prevaricating calculating politician just writing this book for revenge and to muscle in on the political turf, even after him stating that all the candidates including Hillary Clinton were good candidates and that he would probably be endorsing someone. Let's not really discuss the core issues that we should be discussing, because hey, that's hard work, and like the climate crisis that would mean that certain people would then actually have to take moral responsibility for what has transpired in this country due to their recklessness, complacency, and indifference.
And of course, after spending the entire hour hedging, Larry King waits until there was what, 20 seconds left to mention Live Earth in passing? I don't know, perhaps when Mr. Gore speaks about his book in NY tomorrow with Charlie Rose he will get taken seriously with a more intelligent interview where he can expound on the merits of the Democracy crisis without all of the added corporate media hype. I actually enjoyed his interview with Charlie Rose last June very much, as he actually asked questions that relayed to An Inconvenient Truth and the climate crisis. Maybe there is still hope.
All I know is that up to this point it has only served to illustrate very aptly the true deterioration of Democratic dialogue and principles in this country, and a people that to me for the most part are just not into active self-government anymore, and that is indeed dangerous, especially considering what we allowed to slip through the back door seven years ago.
