Somebody Riddle Me This... Why Did Goodling Need To Be Immunized ???
I mean... what has she said that could get her arrested in normal circumstances? What earth-shaking revelations does she possess that made it necessary to get committee approval, the approval of the DOJ and a federal judge for this immunity deal???

Seriously, was this all just a ruse to make us look even more pathetic than yesterday?

Am I missing something here?

4. I'm going to assume it was in case someone asked the right question
From what I saw, and I have missed a bit, it wasn't necessary.

16. I Think You May Be Correct
But if we don't have the right questions by now...

I hope our congress critters are having a "working" lunch, and trying to come up with the questions she needed to be immunized for!

:wtf:

6. So they could get higher up the food chain where this plan was hatched
I believe it was Maxine Waters who got fed up with all MG's "I can't remember(s)" and "I don't know(s)" and said, "We need to have Karl Rove sitting in the chair where you are now to get to the bottom of this.

Edited on Wed May-23-07 12:21 PM by EVDebs
"It's all part of a growing ongoing investigation into corruption in defense and intelligence contracts, which already has sent former Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham to prison and, legal sources say, may threaten others in Congress and the CIA."

BTW, this article is over a year old now...and her attny, John Dowd, specialized in money-laundering/whitecollar crimes. Hmmm, who better to represent Ms Goodling (and Bush, indirectly).

10. She needed to be immunized
Edited on Wed May-23-07 12:28 PM by DefenseLawyer
because the exercised her Fifth Amendment right. Whether she actually needed to our not. Of course technically one can only take the Fifth on specific questions and only upon a good faith showing that the answer could be incriminating. It would have been possible to subpoena her, have her refuse, hold her in contempt, and go to court, where after a year or so a judge would rule on the whole matter. Much easier just to grant her immunity, thus taking away her Fifth Amendment protection, and get on with it.

13. I would not talk to them with out it.
I may not think I have done a thing wrong but my big worry is always who is saying what is right or wrong. Same reason I do not want any party to be looking into what I say and have rights over it. Like tapping my phone. We just do not know who has the say on what is good talk or bad talk. It is who is making up those rules that are the scary ones.

so they can't know if giving her immunity will give them what they seek.

par excellence. She not only drinks the Bush-World Order Koolaid, she makes and serves it at parties. Why in The Hell they did not choose to give Sampson immunity INSTEAD OF the shameless political hack, one each, Monica Goodling, is a mystery to me.

20. They didn't choose
to give her immunity, they gave her immunity to dispense with her assertion of a Fifth Amendment claim and proceed with having her testify. Sampson didn't assert a privilege, thus there was no reason to grant him immunity.

19. Is That True ???
I always thought that immunity was only granted after you had some sort of notion of the testimony the witness was going to give.

Again... has she said ANYTHING that would have incriminated her?

21. You might have a notion, but the witness isn't going to say for sure
what they know (and risk incrimination) until the immunity is in place.

22. i suppose there are a couple possibilities:
Edited on Wed May-23-07 12:38 PM by enki23
1) it may have been a mistake. clearly, she's a "loyal bushie". that is, she's far more loyal to her cabal than she is to her country. that's what it means to be a "loyal bushie" rather than merely a loyal american. that she almost certainly believes they're the same thing is not evidence in her favor. in any case, she wouldn't incriminate anyone in the bush administration on purpose. which brings us to:

2) she may have been given immunity to induce her to testify knowing there was a good chance that, despite her "best" intentions, she would fuck up her testimony as badly as her boss regularly does.
