Meet The Young Reporter Who Rocked MSNBC's World-Wrote the KO Story
Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 06:59 PM by RamboLiberal
The journalist who broke the story that got Keith Olbermann suspended from MSNBC is a recent college grad who's been working in D.C. for less than six months..

Simmi Aujla was a member of Brown University's class of 2009. She joined the staff at Politico in May. On Friday morning, she exposed MSNBC host Keith Olbermann's campaign contributions to three Democratic candidates in Tuesday's election.

----

Aujla covers Congress for Politico. She is a native of Timonium, Maryland. Aujla was editor-in-chief of her college paper, the Brown Daily Herald. As of this writing, she has not responded to a request for comment from The Observer, but she has been Tweeting furiously about the ongoing fallout from her story all day.

14.  Let's not shoot the messenger
The blame belongs solely to NBC.

20. Please define 'fair game'
She's a kid fresh out of college. I will be you dollars to donuts that she's getting death threats inside of 2 days. I want no part of demonizing her. None of us should. She reported something that NBC acted on. Save your fucking ire for them.

Edited on Fri Nov-05-10 07:56 PM by Kookaburra
Hatred of marriage? I don't hate marriage. Marriage is fine as long as everyone is allowed to get married, and it isn't reserved only for heterosexual couples.

And in case you meant misogyny, I don't hate women either.

She's perfectly fine -- not a thing wrong with her.

29. What does her looks, voice, personality, etc
have to do with anything? You are taking out your anger on a young kid fresh out of school rather than the execs who made this decision. I understand that you are angry, but anger directed at the wrong source can escalate into things that are untoward. I'm not saying YOU would do anything...but I've seen mob mentality take over way too often.

I have a child her age that aspires to be a journalist. If she worked for a liberal publication and wrote a high profile piece that pissed off the right, I would be scared for her. I don't want this girl's parents to have to be scared for *her*.

and you don't know me well enough to say that. I am a big believer in free speech and freedom of the press. I think Rush/Beck/etc. have just as much of a right to spew their bullshit as Keith does to tell the truth.

Sorry to disappoint.

ed. I also have the right to call this young lady a twit. I don't agree with what she did.

"Chris Hayes, who's filling in for Olbermann tonight, donated to college friend Josh Segall in his '08 House bid (knew each other at Brown)."

But Chris is NOT filling in! She got the facts wrong!

I'm betting it's really some pasty, soft Heritage Foundation intern--she just got a "little" help (as in, the whole impossibly spun story) from that intern.

34. Is She To Blame For Working For a Bad Media Outlet? Well, Yeah, Actually She Is
No one put a gun to her head and told her to go write for Politico.

BTW, this is in the responses:

Griffin's decision to suspend Olbermann smacks of hypocrisy, when a simple search of Open Secrets shows that MSNBC employees Pat Buchanan, Larry Kudlow, Donnie Deutsch, and Joe Scarborough have all made donations as well. Apparently Aujla's own reporting did not make any further connections. Nor did she look at the donation's that new owner Comcast has made to various Republican groups and candidates.

Or perhaps it's okay to make donations when they go to Republicans.

40. I'm confused. Was there some sort of investigative journalism involved here?
Broke the story? Does that mean first person to run Kieth's name through Open Secrets?

Or is there something I'm missing?
