Do you think Seattle is the rainiest city in the United States? Well, think again.

Mobile, Alabama, actually topped a new list of soggiest cities, with more than 5 feet of rainfall annually, according to a study conducted by San Francisco-based WeatherBill, Inc.

The Southeast dominated the most rainy list, while the Pacific Northwest never enters the list until Olympia, Washington pops up at number 24.

The 10 rainiest cities in the U.S. by amount of annual rainfall include:

1. Hardly news.
I'm pretty sure New York gets more rainfall than Seattle.

The difference is in Seattle it rains very slowly, and all winter long.

2. Before I look I am going to guess Ketchikan, AK is up there.
180+ inches/yr if I recall right. Nope, must not qualify for "city" status. Nope, not in "contiguous 48 states"

"The town was certified in 2005 as the fourth wettest spot on earth, with nearly 200 inches (5100 mm) of rain (the general range is 130-170 inches/3300-4300 mm)" per wiki

3. Interesting.
I have a friend who lives there that really only complains of rain during hurricane season.
In fact, two years ago I think they were evacuated 3-4 times due to storms.
I could put my tinfoil hat on and say that this "study" is just preparing us for hurricane season and the flooding that goes with it...after all, it rains there all the time...look at this study...
But my fucking tinfoil hat is already so damned tight that I have a headache.

4. It's funny how there are a few Florida cities mentioned...
yet we're all on water restrictions and will be for the foreseeable future. Plus we had a wonderful week of brush fires here because the severe lack of rain though it has started to rain quite a bit these last few days.

5. There's a big difference between most rain and most rainy days.
Seattle may get a little drizzle, a heavy mist, but it gets it 300 days/yr. The southeast will be getting all its rain in a matter of 75 days, at a 1/2" to 8-10" at a time. And if a hurricane hits square on you can double that, easily.

6. My parents live up there.
I'm always teasing my Mom because Nashville gets more rain so she says the weather is better there.

The difference, I tell her, is it takes months of endless slow drizzle for them to accumulate their annual while we can get ours in 4 or 5 individual storm events.
