....from a different Governor.
May 23, 2007
Gov. Charlie Crist this afternoon
signed a bill awarding $5 million to the family of Martin Lee Anderson, the 14-year-old boy who died after being beaten by guards at a Panama City boot camp last year.
"We will never know what you have endured and what you have had to go through. We are so sorry for your loss," Crist told Martin's parents, Gina Jones and Robert Anderson, who stood beside him as he signed the legislation.
"No dollar amount can bring Martin back, I think we all realize that," Crist added. "But the only way that we can attempt as a society to try and make this family whole is to compensate them the very best we can."
Jones and Anderson, in brief remarks, thanked Crist for keeping a spotlight on their son's case.
"From day one, he's been with us," Anderson said.
Here is
background on this long, sordid story of another Jeb Bush failure.
Martin, RIP, and may your family be comforted.
