I called my two senators' offices today, and asked that they try to replace Harry Reid
with a Senate majority leader who's actually effective in that role. (My two senators -- that would be Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez.)

If you have Democratic senators in your state, I urge you to call their offices and make the same request. Reid did a passable job in the past (prior to the elections), but that was the past.

1. Nope, I like Harry Reid
I think he's doing the best he can and I can't think of anyone that would be more effective.

5. Speaking on behalf of the yak industry...
...I must take offense to your comments. Yaks are one of the least disease-ridden bovines around!

7. I cant imagine who those guys would choose
to replace Reid. But I'm pretty sure I don't want Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez trying to replace him. Nor my own Senators for that matter.

Maybe I'll email Russ Feingold and Bernie Sanders and ask them to "try and replace" Reid with someone more to THEIR liking.

BTW, "more effective" at what?

8. How do you think Reid has failed? I want to be sure I understand.
I personally don't see this as a problem in the Senate but in the House -- mostly because the Senate is so ossified that it can't actually produce problems.

But, what is your thinking about Sen. Reid?

9. So WHO would you have replace him?
I'm not happy with Reid either, but for the life of me I don't know anyone else who would do the job. I'm not going to say any better, just because I'm so pissed about the job he's already done.

10. That's absurd. You're basically telling your Democratic Senators that their choice sucked.
They voted FOR the guy. The Majority Leader represents THEM, not YOU.

It's an administrative job, one that embodies the will of the majority of Senators in the person of a single Senator. Harry speaks for THEM. He's the fellow that is the mouthpiece for those Senators in the majority.

It's like all the idiotic Pelosi whining I see here. Pelosi is representing the REPRESENTATIVES, not us--she is THEIR choice, their spokesperson--the one THEY want to articulate their will. Steny Hoyer was the choice of the REPRESENTATIVES, too--they felt he was the best and most effective guy to herd cats, not Jack Murtha.

In choosing leadership in the House and Senate, it's not what "the people" want--it's the persons that the legislators feel can be most effective in the job. They want someone who knows how to speak softly, to step back, to push ahead, to twist arms.

There's so much that the public does NOT see. The legislators do, though. I say we go with their choices for these leadership posts--they know who can deliver, and who can't.
