'The planet won't be destroyed by global warming because God promised Noah,' says politician bidding to chair U.S. energy committee

A Republican congressman hoping to chair the powerful House Energy Committee refers to the Bible and God on the issue of global warming.

Representative John Shimkus insists we shouldn't concerned about the planet being destroyed because God promised Noah it wouldn't happen again after the great flood.

Speaking before a House Energy Subcommittee on Energy and Environment hearing in March, 2009, Shimkus quoted Chapter 8, Verse 22 of the Book of Genesis.

He said: 'As long as the earth endures, seed time and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, will never cease.'

So now it appears decisions in our House Energy Committee, not to mention policy that the future of life on earth depends upon, are now being based upon religious mythology :banghead:

12. and the mythology is incorrect.
I thought that was not with water but with fire next time. But hey, I'm not a Christian, what do I know? :shrug: A good Christian like Shimkus is on first name basis, I'm sure. NOT

Of course, he misses the larger point in that the Earth will survive, but we won't.

16. Operative Phrase: As long as the earth endures...
Seems that Earth is getting low on tolerance and endurance these days. Also, from the same book - the Sun goes around the Earth, and other pre-scientific false pronouncements. Shimkus needs to re-examine his interpretation. The only leading he is qualified to do is Sunday school, and only then if he stays off government policy. Idiot. :kick:

20. Perhaps someone should tell him to read the rest of the bible.
When Jesus was talking about the latter days he said this;

Matt.24

<22> And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.

And then Revelations tells how those days would be shortened;

Rev.11

<18> And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Now just who is it that is destroying the earth....The enviomentlist?...or those fools who oppose it in every way in order to profit from it?

22. Which is it Shimkus, Noah and the literal word of the Bible or the dinosaurs?
Where in Genesis does it say that God created and wiped out Dinosaurs tens to hundreds of millions of years before Adam and Eve?

According to the Bible, God created everthing within seven days.

<snip>

'The earth will end only when God declares its time to be over. Man will not destroy this earth. This earth will not be destroyed by a flood.

He added: 'Today we have about 388 parts per million in the atmosphere. I think in the age of dinosaurs, when we had the most flora and fauna, we were probably at 4,000 parts per million. There is a theological debate that this is a carbon-starved planet — not too much carbon. And the cost of a cap-and-trade on the poor is now being discovered.'

One other point, no one ever said that human magnified global warming climate change would destroy the "Earth," the planet will be just fine.

The scientists have said these accelerating, cataclysmic changes will create major catastrophe for humanity. Current human society didn't evolve with the same climate as that from the age of the dinosaurs.

These relatively rapid, human magnified disruptions will send vast numbers of species to extinction and hundreds of millions if not billions of people will die as a result.

Furthermore if you truly believe that God instructed Noah to go through the trouble of saving every species, why on Earth would you support destroying them through our short sighted, greed based actions? It seems to me that if you're willing to gamble with the lives of countless species for pursuit of the almighty dollar, you're defying the will of God.

Thanks for the thread, tx-wyo-dem.

25. Won't destroy the world again with water leaves operating room
Not to mention there being a rather wide gulf between "I" not doing something and "you" doing it to yourself.

That's from their context, which of course they can't be bothered to understand anymore than anything else. Deep, deep, fundamental and quite willful ignorance.
