Click it or ticket commercial, what a complete joke |
|
the announcer saying that police are writing seatbelt tickets "to save lives." They are writing the tickets because the auto insurance companies are giving equipment prizes to police departments that write the most tickets or have the biggest increase in seatbelt tickets. The announcer should say "they are writing tickets to save the insurance companies money."
But it is pretty funny the way it is, maybe that is what they were going for.

1. Less death = less payout by insurance company. |
|
Cops should in general write more tickets for not wearing a seatbelt.

|
Do you have proof of a first time? Of proof of a second time?
You made the claim that the click-it-or-ticket program was run by the insurance companies, and I'm wondering where you got that information.
It's a pretty serious charge!

10. Just another "be afraid" moment |

fostered by those who are above the law. Be afraid of government. If we catch you not listening to nanny, we will make your life more miserable than it already is and fill our coffers with your paycheck. Oh by the way, those guys who steal your identity or poison your pet food, we can't be bothered to regulate them cause regulation is bad.

16. the person I responded to compared not wearing a seatbelt to driving drunk |
|
one only endangers yourself (if you are a driver or passenger) by your own choice, driving drunk endangers others. They are very different.
My fault, thought you were the other poster saying that others could be injured by not wearing a seatbelt.

22. And if you leave behind |
|
family -- spouse or kids, then the only one impacted is still you? How about the 16 year old who drives too fast in a car with three other teens, loses control of the car and they're all ejected and killed? Oh, yeah, it doesn't affect others.
The thing is, just because some idiots drive drunk, or other idiots smoke, and still others eat way too much, doesn't mean that we shouldn't all wear seat belts. Besides, you never know when some idiot whose drunk or talking on a cell phone or whatever won't crash into you.
Worse than being killed probably, is winding up paralyzed or brain damaged.
I have a good friend who refuses to wear a seat belt and the argument that it saves lives is absolutely meaningless to her, and I just don't understand why. I can't get her to see that her only son would be heartbroken if she were killed. If she wound up in a coma for months he'd have to drop out of college. Nope. None of that matters to her, just that she won't by god, be told what to do by some stupid nanny police state. I wish there were a hospital ward, the equivalent of a cancer ward, so she, and everyone else who won't buckle up could see what they are risking.
