I predict McNulty will blow the doors off this scandal ... |
|
McNulty was not an ingenue. He has been there long enough to know how the system works, and the danger that testifying in front of Congressional Committees may present.
They all could be lying, however I think if anyone is closest to telling the truth it is McNulty. Why? McNulty honestly related that a US Attorney was fired to make room for a Karl Rove favorite, and performance was not an issue.
McNulty could have easily stuck to the party line on this one, but did not. McNulty evidently has been honest with Sen Schumer in the past, and money odds are that he told McNulty in private a lot --which earned him the 'scapegoat' label attached to him a mere hours after McNulty announced he was leaving the DOJ.
Monica's testimony regarding McNulty today seemed self-serving and in fact defended herself from prosecution for acting to cause false testimony before Congress. If McNulty did not lie, how would she extricate herself from criminal prosecution --except to obtain immunity first?
I think McNulty was smart enough to stockpile evidence to protect himself in the event he became the 'scapegoat'. McNulty was cut out of the loop, but he knew what was going on by talking to those in the loop. His revelations could bring the White House to its knees. And it has to be war because the White House is behind the labelling of him as the scapegoat.
This could get good in a hurry. I hope I am right.

1. Did you notice Monica G isn't really that intellectually impressive |
|
I hope that she gets disbarred and prosecuted. She had limited immunity.

3. McNulty has already shot back at Monica's testimony implicating him. |
|
He isn't stupid, not by a long shot, and he knows the score.
Question is, what will get to him first? His desire to preserve his reputation, or some lucrative deal for falling on his toothpick?

4. I think you might be right |

So McNulty hasn't testified yet? This could get pretty interesting. I understand that McNulty was quite unhappy with what Monica said about him during her testimony today. If he knows a lot, it might not have been very smart of her to use him as a scapegoat. It is also my understand that she only has immunity as long as she tells the truth.

5. It is what McNulty knows about the Rove involvement that will sink Gonzo/Sampson/Goodlin |
|
McNulty is likely the smartest cookie of the bunch. He knows the score on all counts.
Think about this for a minute. It appears that McNulty is ready to resign, roll out of town remaining silent.
But Gonzo needs someone to hang the blame on, and it sure is not going to be the White House, Sampson is in the perfect position as the aggregator of the list to sink him, and Goodling was involved in the commission of the offenses. The immediate naming of McNulty as the 'scapegoat' means two things: He was the only top official left to blame to protect Gonzo, AND Gonzo and co-conspirators know that McNulty is unlikely to have already spilled more to Schumer and company that will be fatal to Gonzo hanging on.
I can see McNulty picking up on where this was headed and how it might end. If he did not stockpile the 'get out of jail free' evidence he would need later, I will be surprised. And now that Goodling has accused him under oath, the time to pull out the secreted evidence may have arrived.

Monica was only interested in saving Monica. She's a self-absorbed clueless moran.
Change word.
