Everybody knows a Monica. |
|
She works well in dark, moist corners. She feigns kindness and charity but she's sizing up how she can screw you. She is a "yes man" who knows instinctively who to kiss up to. She doesn't like competition even from people who are vastly more competent than she is. She never gets her jobs on merit but on who she knows. She knows where the power is and sucks up to it until it no longer serves her. She actually thinks she's competent until it serves her purposes to be a bimbo. She is never trusted...by anybody. She relies on religion when intelligence and competence and good judgment fail her. She will wait to give an opinion until she sees which way the wind is blowing. She will never really take responsibility for anything. If she's giving you your job evaluation, she will say lovely things to your face and then screw you with the boss. She's thin skinned and cries when it serves her and she cries around men. She lies or never tells the complete truth and she is a clever liar.
We've all met her and most of us have learned to give her a wide berth. She's a perfect fit in this administration.

4. Willfully ignorant, and proud of it!!! |

Monica, Elizabeth Hasselbeck and the likes of Ann Coulter and Michele Malkin. Just horrible people in general.

2. Sure. Both male and female. |
|
And their numbers are legion. It seems to me they are in the majority, at least in positions of responsibility and leadership.

5. My neighbor is a Monica...and there are quite a few in my company. |
|
It is sad - I think it is partially the culture that creates some of them (but not all of them - I think that the Goodling form of Monica is a dreadful mix of religious fervor, impressionalism, probably a really difficult childhood, and stupidity)

6. I have to wonder if some people are born this way, have |

numerous experiences that create an individual of this type or is it a combination of both?
I know that the easiest way to get promoted in the Army is to be noticed by those that have the power to press for such things. It appears that in Goodling's case, she knew the top-dog, and that is how she had a meteoric rise and previously unheard of power for her qualifications and experience. Naturally, she would have thought she was promoted because she was adept at what she did, and excelled in other areas of expertise as well. What really happened, is that those who gave her this power used her just as they've used everyone else. Should she have known that this rise was far too fast, you betcha, but pride and arrogance get in the way of any kind of clear judgment.
Personally, I think she is bright, but not smart. She never once questioned anything, just went along w/what she was told, whether that be in a fundementalist college setting, or under the bush administration...that makes her kind of dumb in a way.
Now, her career is in tatters, she may be disbarred, job offers will only come from some very rich hard-core RW'nut if there are any at all. It shows me that I figure a combination of effects came about to bring on this catastrophe, and yet, w/o her being flawed morally, she would have never reached this bottom point of her life.
