Any bets as to how our Pres candidates in the Senate will vote |
|
on the supplemental funding bill? Dodd has already said he'll oppose it. I believe Biden will vote in favor because he's basically a braying jackass with no substance. Hillary is getting really crappy advice and I think she will vote in favor as well. Obama is the one I don't have a read on. I'm thinking he will oppose it but he has made some really equivocal statements on war funding recently so I don't say this with a lot of confidence.

1. I think Hillary is waiting to hear from the consultants and focus groups. |
|
Biden will vote for it; Obama hasn't said yet. These guys had better think twice about their votes if they don't want to lose a whole lot of support.

2. I'd guess they won't vote or vote present |
|
And that will put me solidly in the Richardson camp.

announced that he is against the bill? If so, that would definitely put him near the top of my list.

6. From what I know Richardson is the only one who has said |
|
he will bring the troops back to America on Jan. 20, 2009. No redeployment, no equivocating. One thing I love about Richardson: he says what he means. You don't have to interpret.

3. My guess is most will vote for it |
|
And I'm not inclined to hold it against them, one way or another. It will pass with or without them, but those candidates who are looking beyond the primaries to the general will probably feel compelled not to have a no vote on their record for the media and Repubicans to kick around. We all know the endless commentary and ads that will be devoted to this: I can hear them licking their chops already.
At this point, I don't think a no vote to this bill helps stop the war at all, so why even belabor this vote? It's Bush's war, and there really isn't a whole lot the Democrats can really do to stop him, not even with their bully pulpit and the American people behind them: this administration is dead set to continue this thing, just as they were dead set to start it. They just have to keep thinking of new ways ....
Only one scenario would make me think the main candidates could vote against the bill: and that is if every single Democratic senator and house member stood together and voted against it. I'd really like to see that happen, but I'm realistic enough to know we have the Max Baucuses and Mary Landrieus and Mark Pryors around.
What we're really mad at is that Bush is intransigent and insane. Any normal president would have cut a deal of some sort ... this one is startk-raving bodaciously power hungry, and that is not a situation you can have a lot of control over.
It's all very sad.

5. I'm pretty sure Hillary will vote FOR it. |

I'm guessing Obama will too. It's the DLC thing to do.
