I am once again embarrassed to live in Kansas when I listen to these kids on CSPAN |
|
Shawnee Mission South High School is in my community. The CSPAN bus is parked there and the kids are asking questions this morning. So far, they have asked if the media is really telling the truth about Iraq, and if the soldiers are having trouble maintaining morale. I can't remember the third question but it was lame.
Brainwashed kids :grr:

1. What I found incredible was this guy, Bing West, saying that |
|
everything in the MSN was true, because editors would fire reporters immediately if they posted untruths.
As for the kids, let's hope this is a learning experience, I don't expect kids to know a whole lot about politics and the media, but this should be eye opening for them...:D

(and I live in the Shawnee Mission School District, and South would have been my kids' h.s. had I not chosen to sent them to a secular private school instead -- Barstow for the two or three of you who will know what it is)the vast majority of teens, even the bright and interested ones, have little interest in or knowledge of current events.
And, while I haven't seen the piece, those questions actually sound pretty good to me. Isn't the MSM still repeating the Bush line that things are improving in Iraq and that morale there is good? I watch Keith Olbermann, listen to Amy Goodman's Democracy Now, Counterspin, Radio Nation, and some other leftie outlets, so I tend not to have any clue what's being presented by the others.
Plus, of course, were the kids asking the questions the ones taking AP Political Science? Or the freshman jocks? And SMS covers mostly a fairly affluent area of Overland Park, where an awful lot of parents are die-hard Republicans. Look at who got elected to the Kansas Legislature from this area.

6. Yes I believe they said it was the AP class |

Your kids went to Barstow? I went to Sunset. We were big rivals. :)

I went to South for two years (graduated from HS in Los Angeles) and even then it was a preppy, self-absorbed rich kid's paradise.
I know it gets high rankings nationally but when I transferred to the Orange County school system I found I was fairly far behind in math and science. That was back when California still cared about education, so things have probably changed.

7. It's a blue ribbon school. |
|
That's the highest rating a school can get.
