Hooray for Rep Steve Cohen who just read the lyrics to this song on the House floor!

1. lyrics:
Ive been waiting for something to happen
For a week or a month or a year
With the blood in the ink of the headlines
And the sound of the crowd in my ear
You might ask what it takes to remember
When you know that youve seen it before
Where a government lies to a people
And a country is drifting to war

And theres a shadow on the faces
Of the men who send the guns
To the wars that are fought in places
Where their business interest runs

On the radio talk shows and the t.v.
You hear one thing again and again
How the u.s.a. stands for freedom
And we come to the aid of a friend
But who are the ones that we call our friends--
These governments killing their own?
Or the people who finally cant take any more
And they pick up a gun or a brick or a stone
There are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

Theres a shadow on the faces
Of the men who fan the flames
Of the wars that are fought in places
Where we cant even say the names

They sell us the president the same way
They sell us our clothes and our cars
They sell us every thing from youth to religion
The same time they sell us our wars
I want to know who the men in the shadows are
I want to hear somebody asking them why
They can be counted on to tell us who our enemies are
But theyre never the ones to fight or to die
And there are lives in the balance
There are people under fire
There are children at the cannons
And there is blood on the wire

3. I have a vid of this song on my favourites list.......
It should be engraved in the halls of government instead of religious icons.

Snip-->

"Members of Anzack's platoon choked back tears at news of his death
and said they would not stop looking for the other two missing soldiers.

"We can't leave them behind. I just hope that they have enough faith to
keep them going. What they're going through right now, I can't imagine,"
said Pfc. Sammy Rhodes, 25, of Albuquerque, N.M.

Spc. Daniel Seitz, 22, of Pensacola, Fla., said he was trying to stay
strong and push ahead with the search.

"It just angers me that it's just another friend I've got to lose and
deal with, because I've already lost 13 friends since I've been here
and I don't know if I can take any more of this," he said."

9. That song is as pertinent now as when it was written
I am not sure which particular conflict it was about, but I guess our government keeps repeating the same old lies.

10. Agreed. Jackson Browne wrote the song in 1986, during the Reagan years
about the wars in Central America, and the terrible human cost of a morally bankrupt foreign policy.
