This could be the definitive moment for Obama. |
|
If and when this thing gets to the senate, he'll have an opportunity to filibuster it.
If he does, then he'd quite possibly ensure his place in history, end the war, save the lives of thousands of people, be a hero to millions of registered voters, and possibly even secure the nomination/presidency. Hopefully with lots of help from Kucinich, Kennedy, Byrd, and so on.
If he doesn't fight it tooth and nail, and a simple "no" vote isn't tooth and nail, IMO, then he'd be an awfully big flop, putting it nicely.
So while you're sending off angry letters, phone calls, and e-mails to your representatives, which you're surely doing, you may want to send off a demand to Obama that he filibuster.
P.S.- interesting fact- if one were to read allowed the names of the 3434 U.S. troops killed in Iraq without a break, it would take approximately two hours. Assuming ages and home states were left out.

4. It only takes on man to filibuster. |
|
It might not work, but it only takes one man to stand up.

11. That was one of my most FAVORITE West Wing episodes |
|
it was outstanding. Will Obama do it? I'm not holding my breath but it would certainly make me take another look at who I was planning to vote for.

7. I want to be gung-ho for Obama. |

However, I am now leaning towards Edwards after this.
We gave Obama some $$ ... I might have to send some Edwards' way to even it out.

14. Sorry, din't know you were a DLC lover |

that turns a blind eye to one who helped bring about the war in Iraq.
This man was my senator and he treated his constituents like crap. He's a finger in the wind phony that will do or say anything that will get him elected.

I'm really in the mood for snarky shit today, with this vote going down.
Ciao, we won't be running into each other again.

But, crap, Obama should know better at this point than to capitulate to Bush! As for Hillary ... I expect her to cave and capitulate and compromise and triangulate and talk out of both sides of her mouth.

12. On KOS ..Kerry said there was no chance of Filibuster |
|
there is no votes for it, it would be an empty gesture, can also be twisted as grandstanding. I just look for Obama to stand on his word, he was against the war from the begining, I expect him to vote no.
I will be watching this vote very carefully. It is more important than the original IWR vote in 2002. IMHO
