Study: Few Afghans know about 9/11, reason for war
Study: Few Afghans know about 9/11, reason for war

KABUL — Afghans in two crucial southern provinces are almost completely unaware of the September 11 attacks on the United States and don't know they precipitated the foreign intervention now in its 10th year, a new report showed on Friday.

NATO leaders gathered in Lisbon for a summit on Friday where the transition from foreign forces — now at about 150,000 — to Afghan security responsibility will be at the top of the agenda, with leaders to discuss a 2014 target date set by Kabul.

Story: Obama at NATO summit to plan Afghan pullout
Few Afghans in Helmand and Kandahar provinces, Taliban strongholds where fighting remains fiercest, know why foreign troops are in Afghanistan, says the "Afghanistan Transition: Missing Variables" report to be released later on Friday.

1. "Nine-what? Nope, never heard of it. Must have been washing my hair that day. Our TV reception is
sorta iffy as well."

3. You can't imagine people who are not watching TV 24/7?
I don't get your snarky comment. I think that they have very few TVs there.

11. Most of these people never learned to read and have no TVs - or shampoo.
Are you really that ignorant of the conditions in the world? I'll give you an excuse for this comment if it turns out you're 11.

13. Right, they're just backward savages, no TV, radio, word of mouth, curiosity about foreign troops
shooting up the place? Don't blindly accept a "study" that is so ludicrous.

15. Studies say most Americans can't find Afghanistan or Iraq on a world map.
Do you think those are made up too?

16. And the median age in Afghanistan is 18.
So most of those we're bombing were not even 10 years old in 2001.

6. Hell, most Americans can't figure out why we're still conducting that lost war.
Tho' the military and the politicians know that it's all about saving face and PR.

7. Maybe because they had
Nothing to do with 9/11. If Afghanistan had a way to make the Pentagon sit on their asses for 40 minutes while we were being attacked, I'd like to see how they did it. After all, Rumsfailed was out helping victims. Isn't that what the Secretary of DEFENSE is suppose to do? I still can't believe more people believe Bush's lies about 9/11. But lets not blame anyone shall we.

8. At the beginning most of the people we were bombing never heard of the twin towers
Like taking a dog outside and just start beating it with a baseball bat for no reason. Only worse. We were doing it to humans. We still are.

9. It's not about the twin towers, dude
This invasion and occupation aren't about twin towers. it's simple colonialism and an atempt to get the empire into the Russian's underbelly. A simple neocon plan which misfired, just like their plan to bomb Kosovo misfired, and their plan to invade Iraq misfired, and their plan to finance Ethiopia to invade Somalia misfired. But I'm sure there are many Americans who don't get it. So I guess we'll keep on chugging, and losing, and ruining the country and our reputation.

10. Oh gee whiz, people!
We're there fightin' for their freedom! Damn ingrates, can't even appreciate that that's why we're bombing their wedding parties, sealing them up in truck trailers and machine gunning them, and making the rubble bounce in such a lively fashion. Pretty soon, they're gonna be so fuckin' free, they can fly. And this is the thanks we get for all we've done? I've a good mind to just pick up and get the hell out of there and leave them to their own devices. That'd teach 'em a lesson!

12. Hey, that never stopped the USA from killing before!
Need to know? Like the need to know about WMD before costing the lives of thousands of troops and millions of civilians? I don't think Afghanistan was really ever the target, but now since the Iraq war failed miserably (needed a goal in that one too) we can maybe refocus on telling the natives we are at war with them? Nah, just hold down the trigger and fire...better that way. :sarcasm:
