Why are we not marching on DC?
Our country is out of control. Our leaders are not listening to We The People. Why is DC not flooded with people protesting? Why are we sitting here numbed rather than rising up in anger?

5. We can but the press doesn't really cover that much.
When people are being put brutally down, then there will be coverage.

To use/change an old lyric: the brutality will not be televised.

The network spokes models know who pay for their fancy lives.

18. You signed something?
Seriously though...start local. Go to your local county meetings. Go online and find others in your area that feel like you and hang with them and find out what you can do locally to protest.

Local is the answer now. The corporations own Washington.

Peace.

3. good question
wish i had a sincerly good answer-

What difference did the march against the begining of this war do? Even people in other countries turned out en-masse.... and to what end?

*'s got his microwave crowd control- his 'free speech' cages- it is going to take more than just marching- It is going to take stopping the machines- Funny how negotiations begin, when physical work stops- maybe the nation needs to go on strike?

4. I'm a long way from DC but if there is an organized march, my
other half and I will go. Ages 65 and 72 and we have to drive 12 hours protest this crap? I have never been so angry. How is it possible that we have been so duped by this administration? How could we be so stupid?

Working yourself to death just trying to keep your head above water, only to have these fools in government step on you as though you were nothing more that another source of money...and nothing else.

There should be demonstrations all over the country now, not some get-together 3 months down the road. I truly believe we are losing our freedom, one day at a time.

8. Because most of us, me included (though I have served in Iraq), have it too easy,
despite our bitterness toward Bushco. We generally have enough money, despite oil prices, to get out to Wal-Mart and Best Buy to buy our Big Screen Numb machines. I sometimes rationalize that my getting upset with Bushco and posting on DU is my way of "doing something." As we have seen, pretty ineffective, huh?

p.s. I am meeting with my county council representative next week to discuss what my county can do to show its displeasure with our elected leaders in Washington not heeding the wishes of a clear majority of the American people regarding Iraq. I'm not sure what to expect from this endeavor.

You win the prize.

Local action. Nationally we can no longer fight it. However, if we start local and work up...well...baby steps.

I hope you endeavor works out well. See if there are people at DU that are from your area and try to get some support...Good Luck!!!

9. Not close enough.
Edited on Thu May-24-07 12:23 PM by saddlesore
In my opinion, people only really get PERSONAL and up close when they are DIRECTLY impacted.

Sure gas is high. Soldiers are dying. Food is poisoned. Walmart rules the day.

However, for the most part, a large majority of the democratic base are fairly well off. They have some cash. They have jobs. They have kids. They drive SUVs. I am talking base, not left of base.

Mouths to feed. Babies to burp. Leetle Johnny has soccer pratice.

So long as base has cake. No concerted effort to lay it down and remove them all and start over.

And besides, if there was a concerted organized march...NSPD 51...wham. Marshall Law.

A little My Chemical Romance might help...

...

We're damned after all.
Through fortune and flame we fall.
And if you can stay then I’ll show you the way,
To return to the ashes you call.

We all carry on,
When our brothers in arms are gone.
So raise your glass high for tomorrow we die,
and return from the ashes you call.

Peace...sorry for the song, it was playing when I typed this...;-)

Cause we got bills to pay
We've got kids to care for.
We've got jobs that 'give' two weeks vacation a year.
Its spring and we'd rather go to the beach.
We marched in January ( I was there) and NOTHING HAS CHANGED.
Cause even though 75-80% of America wants this war to end, our Leaders do not.

People have to go and be prepared to stay for as long as it takes, that means disrupting life as one knows it, it's going to come down to all or nothing either we commit ourselves to total change or we shut the fuck up and say thank you sir may I have another.

I just don't see that happening in the near future. We're frogs in water that's being brought slooowly to a boil ... and it ... just... feels... soo... good. Pass the pizza and tune in to American Idol.

It's gonna get a lot worse before it gets better.

We don't have an opposition party...We have the APPEARANCE of an opposition party...

We don't have a democracy...We have the APPEARANCE of a democracy...

Too much wealth in too few hands.

Oh, there's considerable effort spent to put a democratic skin on this very undemocratic country, but the deception grows thin. And as time goes on, that will become more and more apparent.

And I'm sorry to say, at this point, blood will be shed before that changes.

How much blood? Who knows?

Will a more just nation come out of this bloodshed? Again, who knows?

When will this happen? When our economic house of cards collapses.

July 4th -- Peace Is Patriotic!

As the July 4th weekend approaches, we want to encourage your group to think about planning antiwar
actions during the holiday weekend. July 4th celebrations take place in cities and towns, communities
small and large, urban centers and rural locations.

Sometimes antiwar organizers have stayed away from these highly "patriotic" gatherings, assuming an
unfriendly response. But this year, given the deep public sentiment against the war in Iraq and the
very low approval ratings for President Bush, it might make sense to organize something that will
allow more people to express their own opposition to the war.

http://www.unitedforpeace.org/article.php?id=3295">You'll know what's most appropriate for your community, but here are several ideas of things you could plan:

Albeit only once but I realized the futility of it, brave and patriotic as it may be. We are still allowed to have marches to give us the illusion of democracy. Aside from that all marches will be ignored unless they march right through the gates of the white house and drag the criminals out.
