Town officials could ban balloons from Wrightsville Beach

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WECT) – Town officials in Wrightsville Beach will discuss a balloon ban during their meeting Thursday night.

According to Town Manager Bob Simpson, leftover balloon litter has become an issue.

Council members will vote to ban balloons from the beachfront and waterways for environmental reasons. They hope the ordinance will help protect sea turtles and other marine life.

Anyone found with inflated balloons will face a $100 fine. Anyone caught releasing the balloons will face a $250 fine.
