BREAKING NEWS/MSNBC! Senate Will Vote Tonight! on Iraq War Funding Bill/
Edited on Thu May-24-07 02:11 PM by KoKo01
Schedule is House will Debate it from 5 to 7:00 p.m. then it goes straight to the Senate TONIGHT to be voted on and so far Dodd says he will vote NO Biden says he will vote Yes and Obama says he wants to read it with no comment from Hillary.

The Senate was going to vote on it Tomorrow but the latest news is that they want to push it through tonight to get out of town. They will get it earlier because the "House Ethics Reform Bill" is going "quicker than expected."

So...the FIREWORKS or CAPITULATION will be in the SENATE after 7:00 p.m. TONIGHT!

On EDIT: Smirking MSNBC'er said the Anti-War Dems are pressuring....

1. Reading it might be
a good idea for all of them.

Any chance Bush will veto this one because of the minimum wage raise in it? Or did they take that out too?

Dammit, Senators, filibuster!

This is a case where the right and proper thing to do is also the popular thing to do! Run with it!

9. Well, the troops are getting the week off too, right?
I mean, they'll go to some lush resort in Saudi Arabia to celebrate the Memorial Day holiday, won't they?

Our Congress members are way out of touch with reality. It's sickening.

NOTE TO CONGRESS: Most of America will be WORKING tomorrow. WHY AREN'T YOU? DO YOU NOT HAVE THINGS TO DO???

8. Honestly, if the Dems could have passed their version,
Who's to say that Bush would not have just done one of his "signing statements" that he was going to keep funding the war and eliminate the timetable. We all know that he has circumvented the law by doing this.

And more of the public would understand that the * admin is out of control and the pressure for impeachment would increase.

10. we're supposed to hope for 20 Dems to vote "No" on the rule before the vote for the legislation
Dems who vote "Yes" on the rule are voting to give bush his blank check.

"Here's How to Follow Today's Big Iraq Vote"
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x3280358

excerpt:

Here's how it is expected to work today in a process only Dick Cheney could love (though you never know - it could change at the last minute). Every bill comes to the House floor with what is known as a "rule" that sets the terms of the debate over the legislation in question. House members first vote to approve this parliamentary rule, and then vote on the legislation. Today, however, Democrats are planning to essentially include the Iraq blank check bill IN the rule itself, by making sure the underlying bill the rule brings to the floor includes no timelines for withdrawal, and that the rule only allows amendments that fund the war with no restrictions - blank check amendments that House Democratic leaders know Republicans will have the votes to pass.

14. He says the Senate could still do an old fashioned "read the phonebook" fillibuster!
Remember, all we need is 20 Democrats to vote no on the rule to send the bill down and start over. If that doesn't happen, then the question becomes which U.S. Senator is going to answer the "where's the beef?" question by putting their antiwar rhetoric into action by pulling an old-school, read-the-phonebook filibuster? Sens. Chris Dodd, John Kerry, Bernie Sanders and Russ Feingold seem to be girding for a big fight, while the Associated Press reports both Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama "declined" to take a position. Will we see a real filibuster, or will we see capitulation in the upper chamber? Stay tuned.

24. 100B - odd that this is only 20B short of the 120B
needed to fund another year. September is bullshit. Yes it is a blank check: no deadlines, no benchmarks, no restraints.

29. Kerry said there's no sustainable filibuster to be had cuz only 20% are with them.
There's no CHANCE of one succeeding, unlike Alito which had the 37 votes out of the 40 needed.

19. NO! They already voted on the bill. The rest is just "show" for the House
to make it look like they are debating. Sirota said to watch the "Rule Vote" as to how it would go...and only Kucinich and six others voted against the Rule vote...so you know where it's going right there.

I know what Sirota said was confusing to all of us...but it seems to be going the way he said. The Senate can still fillibuster though. Tune in to C-Span II at 8:00 p.m., I guess...to see.

25. What Sirota knows about House procedures apparently would fit in a thimble
And you don't help yourself by defending him. There was a vote on the "rule" which is the motion that allows consideration of the supplemental, describes what amendments are or are not in order, etc. It passed, on a recorded vote, with all but 7 Democrats supporting and all but 2 repubs opposing. (Now, do you seriously think that the only recorded vote on this is going to have all but 2 repubs voting against funding the war?)

After the bill is debated and certain amendments are considered, there will be another recorded vote on whether to adopt the supplemental. That is the vote that matters. And my bet is that more than seven Democrats will vote against it and that more than 2 repubs will vote for it. But whether I'm right or wrong, we'll know who voted for/against, notwithstanding Sirota's fantasy.

34. Wait and see how it all sorts out. Sirota spent alot of time on the Hill and knows how it works
so I go with what he says. He's a very Lefty Progressive which might not be "cup of tea" for "Centrist Dems" but I've not found him to be a liar or a misleader.

Let's wait and see.

22. Asked my Senators why they are restarting war
Just called my states senators. Told them the war effectively ended when Bush vetoed the funding. Asked them why are you starting the war anew by refunding it? Among other reasons, I voted democratic to end the war, not to promote it.

I have no representation in the Senate. Still I hope the House can initiate impeachment. Force them to support the officials on trial as evidence comes out.

31. I've been watching a little of this "off & on" but Jerry Lewis (R-Ca)'s HAIR just kind of
TURNS ME OFF! Why is this POS not IN JAIL!

Just heard Murtha throwing a bone to us "Dirty Hippies" where he says we need to "compromise" because (what I heard) the tide is changing and the Chimperor is going to have to start paying attention to what's going on.... and Obey is urging all Dems (it's an empty Chamber) to vote for both bills (the second bill is the Minimum Wage Bill that was taken OUT of Iraq Funding Bill by Repugs/Dems and that if we Dems just "hang tough" (not a Murtha quote, just my interpretation) then we will understand that they are "working hard for us." Murtha "hears our pain."

I don't feel sorry for her. She has choices and chose to make them. I can't imagine any punishment or compromise so great it would be worth the harm she's done to her own reputation as Speaker.

She sold out, its her problem.

At her age with children and grandchildren..what is she looking for? I would think it would be "TO DO THE CORRECT THING FOR HER COUNTRY!"

I don't know if her kids work in DC for Lobbyists and if her daughter who does the Documentaries is leaning on her for money. WHO KNOWS? If Nancy's Kids are so dependent on WAR/Military/Industrial Complex/Lobbying in DC ...would we KNOW? Doesn't she have FIVE KIDS?

Would she CORRUPT HERSELF LIKE THIS?
