More House Dems Switch Parties

Atlanta Business Chronicle - by Dave Williams
Date: Monday, November 22, 2010, 8:42am EST

Two more Democrats in the Georgia House have switched over to the Republicans, moving the GOP closer to a super-majority of 120 seats.

Reps. Ellis Black and Amy Carter, both from Valdosta, announced Monday that they will join the House Republican Caucus.

That gives the GOP 113 seats to just 66 for the Democrats in the 180-seat lower chamber. One House member is an independent.

Both lawmakers said they now believe they could better serve their constituents as Republicans

17. a more complete description of Amy Carter's post WH life
First, notwithstanding the statement in Wikipedia that Carter was dismissed from Brown for academic reasons, news reports at the time indicated that the school had asked her to take a semester off because she was neglecting her studies through her activism. She could have returned without reapplying, but decided not to do so. Instead, she enrolled in, and graduated from, the Memphis College of Art with a Fine Arts Degree and then went on to receive a masters degree in art history from Tulane. In 1996 she married a guy she met at Tulane who is a computer consultant. She gave birth to a son in 1999 and has lived a relatively quiet life in the Atlanta area for more than a decade.

7. In the long run, it's a good thing because you can
vote for a real Democrat in 2012. Time for all conservadems and Blue Dogs to show their true red Republican colors so that they can be retired in the future.

12. IN GEORGIA? You're kidding, right? The only place I know of that has any REA DEMS is
in the city of Atlanta & maybe a very few in Athens. That's IT! most elections don't even have anyone on the ballot as a Dem,, and if there IS a candidate, for damn sure they're not REAL DEMS!

to the people who voted for them.

21. Are they African-Americans?
Because if they're not, they're just joining their natural party. It's part of the ongoing realignment of the South.

Apart from a few suburbs, GA party lines are racial lines.

It's tough enough just getting a Dem elected around here. Then to have one win and switch sides. :grr:
