HEADLINE: TSA chief warns against boycott of airport scans
ATLANTA – The nation's airport security chief urged travelers not to boycott full-body scans on Wednesday — one of the busiest flying days of the year — as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches with some Americans in a foul and rebellious mood.

Transportation Security Administration chief John Pistole said Monday that such delaying actions would only "tie up people who want to go home and see their loved ones."

"We all wish we lived in a world where security procedures at airports weren't necessary," he said, "but that just isn't the case."

He noted the alleged attempt by a Nigerian with explosives in his underwear to bring down a plane over Detroit last Christmas.

I bet a "special" protocall was set up for the boycotters.
They will probably have to wait hours and miss their flights as punishment. Watch.

Sorry folks, but I hope they are successful in closing down
some major airports with the boycott. I also hope other airports are nearly vacant from canceled travelers. ENOUGH is enough. Time to send the message.

14. Too soon to make a difference for Thanksgiving and maybe Christmas travellers
But I expect the damage to be evident by spring. Maybe all those pilots (and now flight attendants) who are being exempted will favor most of us being exempted, when they get laid off because nobody's buying tickets except rich businesspeople.

With all that time on their hands for the TSA jackboots, maybe the richites will get ultra-groped, too, and tell the congresscritters that they own to do something about it.

12. If boycott truly successful, this could be Obama's Katrina....
Edited on Mon Nov-22-10 06:31 PM by hlthe2b
That is a depressing proposition to me, but the administration is being absolutely stupid about this policy. Even if they truly believe it necessary and not simply "expedient", could they be more tone deaf? I am totally dismayed, but I truly believe this is a line in the sand for what remains of our civil rights. We have to push back.

And for those who want to ask if I would prefer to fly on a plane full of (invasively screened) passengers or those who only went through the routine procedures, I argue vehemently it is a draw. Nothing about these new procedures plug the security holes of the workers on the tarmacs or others behind the scenes who are poorly screened. Nor does it do anything to decrease risk from unscreened cargo. It is all smoke and mirrors, though with a very repulsive image.

8. Obama would do well to muzzle these idiots that keep saying shit like this.
Of course, I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt that he's not as tone-deaf as some of the people in his administration seem to be.

13. Like Pistole gives a damn about our loved ones.
All Pistole cares about is his job, and getting some sleazy lobbying job after he leaves TSA.

In order to join families, our loved ones don't want us to have to go through the porno scanners or have to be genitally groped.

Whatever you do OPT OUT, OPT OUT.
