Rush attacks 'Car of the Year' Chevy Volt and Moter Trend responds - MUST READ!!
Edited on Tue Nov-23-10 08:55 AM by Dawgs
http://blogs.motortrend.com/rush-judgment-5957.html

So, Mr. Limbaugh; you didn’t enjoy your drive of our 2011 Car of the Year, the Chevrolet Volt? Assuming you’ve been anywhere near the biggest automotive technological breakthrough since … I don’t know, maybe the self-starter, could you even find your way to the front seat? Or are you happy attacking a car that you’ve never even seen in person?
...
Back to us for a moment, our credibility, Mr. Limbaugh, comes from actually driving and testing the car, and understanding its advanced technology. It comes from driving and testing virtually every new car sold, and from doing this once a year with all the all-new or significantly improved models all at the same time. We test, make judgments and write about things we understand.
...
But, harrumph. In its attempt to force cars that don’t use much gas on us — how un-American/un-ExxonMobil/un-Halliburton is that? — the Obama administration is offering a $7,500 tax credit on the Chevy Volt, grabbing tax breaks and credits right out of the deserving, job-creating pockets of America’s richest individuals. How dare he?
...
If you can stop shilling for your favorite political party long enough to go for a drive, you might really enjoy the Chevy Volt. I’m sure GM would be happy to lend you one for the weekend. Just remember: driving and Oxycontin don’t mix.

It is revealed time over that the GOP and their pundits and assholes are all controlled by the oil companies and will pander to other companies who are willing to bankroll them.

11. There's been an interesting shift at the car mags.
Edited on Tue Nov-23-10 10:13 AM by DirkGently
I'm more of a Car & Driver person, but back in the days of Brock Yates, they spent a lot of time and energy bashing EVs, clucking about how hopeless and idealistic they were, and joining in the general mythology that they could never work.

I don't know what changed, other than Yates' departure, but driving a Tesla seemed to be a turning point. It posted the fastest (50-70mph)? acceleration they'd ever recorded and C & D obviously had a great time driving it, even though they just had to frame it as "The electric car we'd own if we wanted one, which we don't" or something like that.

Glad to see Motor Trend stick up for facts over ideology. Gearheads are another group who ought to take issue with the rightwing's fact-free bubble universe.

54. never
been quite sure why,but the general attitude at most car mags and I've subscribed to or read a great many of them is snark. I think it's the only way the writers can think of to reassure readers they're maintaining their objectivity especially when they're truly excited about some development which I believe they are about this automobile. real gearheads know it's about the quality of the technology and of the automobile and the driving experience, apparently this car rates in all categories. To be sure it's not the Ferrari 458 but what Detroit creation is and even Ferrari is developing its version of hybrid technology.Limpballs I believe drives a Maybach one of those cars, which like so many other things in our consumer society, says more about the owner's self-perceived shortcomings than about anything else. The automotive industry in general is just looking to keep people driving and knows they have to adapt.

18. The ironic thing is, Rush is always bashing environmentalists....
...for desiring to be technologically backwards. He says we think (i.e. strawman fallacy) everyone should give up on driving cars and only ride bikes or walk.

The irony is that environmentalists are the ones on the cutting edge of new technology, and it's the old conservative dinosaurs like Rush who think we can't do better than fossil fuel technology.

But then again, are we surprised at this man and his hypocricy?

24. Absolutely agreed
Progress in technology, infrastructure and energy should never be a partisan issue or even a political issue for that matter. Such as the high speed rails that are being shot down by incredibly incompetent governors like in Ohio and Wisconsin. Simply ridiculous as to how anyone outside of big oil could be against these advances.

In Sacramento we had great street car system but Standard Oil bought it, dismantled it, sold it. They did that all over the country.

Thank God New Orleans didn't fall for that. I freaking love the street cars there.

47. we DID fall for it
Just to update, New Orleans tore out miles and miles of streetcar tracks on the 1960s because GM gave us a ton of money and bus discounts. Only one streetcar line remained---the St. Charles Ave line. Then, a few years back, we reversed ourselves and replaced the busses with streetcar lines again. So, we did fall for it but we corrected ourselves. As for Rush, he falls for it and is stupid forever. He is not a victim of stupidity, he is a carrier.

48. Edited,COMPLETELY fall for it...
And now you are bringing them back. Love it. I was pretty happy with the way they work there. I stayed in Mid City at Carrollton and Canal and went to Fest, the quarter, and to Frenchman Street mostly, so they served me very well..

I love it, I met tons of people, even a date, on the train. People seem more open to conversations. The whole thing is very convivial. On busses people shut up or talk on the cell phone. But street cars just invite a traveling party vibe. The whole no schedule thing is so crazy. Wait for a car, see one going to the Cemeteries and think, the next one is going to City Park. BUT NO! The next one, and maybe two after that, are going to the Cemeteries. They run all night too, but sometimes you have to wait for them all night.

One guy I met on the car, an oil company executive for BP, I had dinner with at Venezia, and we talked about the oil spill. Really good guy, who's whole world was going to explode in the next day or so. This was a couple of days since the rig exploded. And remembering our conversations I told him what was going to happen and he did not think that.

41. When gas was over $4 gallon Limblah bragged about buying 4 huge gas guzzlers.
While the rest of the American people were getting robbed at the pump Limblah said in air he went to a local car dealership and asked for the four least efficient cars. Of course the buffoonish Limblah could do that with all his hate money, but it was a slap in the face to every American who has to work for a living. It was also irresponsible and even traitorous because he was telling people to buy the least efficient cars, and by doing so it would make our country even more dependent on foreign oil.

The kind that live in a fact-free bubble of non-reality.
The kind that believe our milquetoast, barely left of center-right President is a raging socialist.
The kind that nod in silent assent to every racist dollop of bilge that he spews forth daily.
The kind that do not care about health care for people, but are used daily to ensure profit care for corporations.
The kind that agree with Sarah Palin. About anything.
The kind that say things like "the folks" or "one of us" or "REAL Americans" or "traditional values" or "gay agenda".
The kind that cannot form cogent thoughts of their own without having talking points driven into their malleable minds for hours a day.
The kind that watch Glenn Beck as education and Bill O'Reilly as "spin-free" and 100% believe it to the core of their being.
The kind that in short I cannot abide, the kind I cannot reason with nor respect.
The kind that a portion of me wishes gets the suffering they so richly deserve.

Limbaugh is a piece of shit, but he has been the same one-trick pony for decades already.

What I find incomprehensible is the fact that for 8 years from the stolen election of 2000 to the inaugural of Jan. 2009, Rush and his cronies and cohorts all got EXACTLY what they wanted. They had a right-wing, know-nothing government of lax to non-existent regulations, massive unfunded tax cuts and massive concentration of wealth with the concurrent destruction of the middle class.

They got a pair of foreign wars to use as credit cards on the backs of the American people to further enhance their theft of the nation's wealth and the placing of that wealth into fewer and fewer hands - all without managing to create enough new jobs to keep pace with the population, let alone actually improve the fate of the country's workers.

They got their friends in Wall Street, Oil and Pharma record profits and enough cash to make even the Pharohs of Egypt blush. The results of this were the Great Recession / Great Depression II. And yet, Rush STILL has the same base of bloodless zealots and true believers/truly exploited sheeple.

It boggles the mind that, in a nation where the corporations are raking in RECORD PROFITS IN THE HISTORY OF HUMANITY, there still exists a large portion of the population which would have you believe the Obama administration is Simon B. Sinister plotting ways to destroy businesses. Because, you know, Rush said so....

Edited on Wed Nov-24-10 05:37 PM by GreenTea
Bush & Limbaugh had great laughs when Bush and his administration gave big write-offs, purposely, for all gas-guzzling vehicles like the Hummer....

I could just see it now, Pigman Limbaugh telling Bush...."You really want to piss off these god-damn tree-hugging, planet loving environmentalist, liberals & progressives"? Then give a huge tax write-offs instead of to fuel efficient vehicles, give the huge tax write-offs instead to all vehicles that have excess weight and low MPG (like the Hummer).

And Bush did!

The filthy rich Limbaugh and his rich Reich republican asshole cronies are so vindictive & arrogant, so selfish, hateful and non-caring about anything or anyone but their own disgusting lying insatiable greedy pig selves!

We're ALL praying that the pigman Limbaugh will die very soon - Just as pigman Falwell did! And we'll all be laughing, dancing & partying!!

57. For Rush and the financeers who pay his $60MM/year salary,
it's important to keep the middle-class split and maintain the status quo. Can't have common ground on issues like energy. jobs, and the environment - that might actually be good for this country...but not so good for those vested in selling this country short. Rush is clueless about the technology...but he knows how to read his talking points that are supplied by those who pay his salary.
