Woman who told Obama she was 'exhausted' loses job
WASHINGTON — The woman who told President Barack Obama that she was "exhausted" from defending him and his economic policies and waiting for the change she expected after voting for him has another reason to be put out: She's lost her job.

Velma Hart, the chief financial officer for Am Vets, a veteran services organization based in Maryland, said Monday in an interview with CNBC that she was laid off as part of the nonprofit's effort to cut expenses.

"I want to focus on the positive and be optimistic," said Hart, who lives in Upper Marlboro, Md. "And assume that somehow things will work out, that there's an opportunity out there with Velma's name on it that's right around the corner."

Am Vets executive director Jim King told The Washington Post that the nonprofit was looking for ways to survive financially.

1. The nail that sticks up gets hammered down
The powers that be didn't like what she said, evidently.

What a shame.

2. At least she won't be exhausted
from defending the administration anymore. That can stay reserved for trying to find a job. If Obama has any sense, he'll spend every effort counterpunching the pukes and their efforts to DESTROY this country. Stop trying to appease the pukes and fucking hit them! Again and again and again and again.

3. My heart goes out to Ms. Hart
Edited on Tue Nov-23-10 10:05 AM by Mimosa
Who can say why Ms. Hart's position was cut? Maybe she had a foreboding. But it doesn't seem like CFO of Amvets is a position which would be completely eliminated. I do think just one publicised job loss after saying the wrong things at a public, televised forum, comments about 'the new reality' which appeared to embarrass the President, might serve to intimidate other critics.

Ms. Hart was worried because her 70 year old mother may have to find a job:

The truth is the promised hope and change didn't and won't happen. There is no safety net if somebody can't afford health insurance and isn't poor enough for Medicaid. That is frightening for people over 40 or 50. (I hope her husband has a decent job and health insurance.) Obama appointed a commission who's head, former Senator Alan Simpson, is talking about slashing Social Security and Medicare. But the funds for the continuing wars in the Middle east will always be found.

10. Except Medicaid is being cut, too. Yikes.
"Huge budget shortfalls are prompting a handful of states to begin discussing a once-unthinkable scenario: dropping out of the Medicaid insurance program for the poor," The Wall Street Journal reports.

Officials in several states, including Washington, Texas, and South Carolina, have publicly pitched the idea. Medicaid, whose enrollment totaled 62 million nationwide in 2007, is one of the biggest items on state budgets, "and states complain they don't have enough flexibility to pare it" without losing the matching funds provided by the federal government, which cover 57 percent of the cost of the program on average.

"Some states, in particular those led by Republicans, are calculating whether they'd be better off giving up the federal funding and replacing Medicaid with a narrower program of their own."

12. Single payer national health care would have solved the problem
And business would be booming if they could employ people without having to be the suppliers of health insurance for full time employees!

The biggest employers in Atlanta (where I live) will NOT hire people over 50 or 55 because the health insurance companies dictate what the pool has to be to get a good rate.

How can Democrats not see 'buy in' Medicare for all would have been the solution? Instead, the president appears to have believed what 30% profit health insurance company CEOs told him. When the admin were 'in talks' before the nasty AHCA went to the house floor, Obama's own physician of 20+ years (in Chicago) wanted to talk to him about the advantages of single payer. Obama wouldn't meet with his own family doctor.

17. Just the next phase in transferred wealth unfolding.
People in their 50's & 60's who have managed to amass a small nest egg & a home (paid off or nearly paid off) will now be downsized out of jobs, which will set off the next phase.."using up" that nest egg/transferring assets upwards to corporations who will in turn "provide" them with a possibility-of-some-medical care.

Probably the ONLY hedge against this happening , is to arrive at age 60 with a paid off home & a few "lodgers" to provide some extra income, or to always rent & to own as little as possible.

Qualifying for aid is almost impossible if you have assets of any kind.

Shared housing to cut down on costs or owning nothing of value... our future

4. well, now she'll get to rest!
No more having to defend the president from those republican soldiers.

Sorry I sound so crass, but I think this is the 20th headline here for this story and finally I was tired.

5. You're tired of passing over too many posts on DU...
God that must have been hard for you. Certainly worth posting on a thread about a woman losing her job. Your empathy is overwhelming.

7. Ms. Hart herself says
that she is optimistic about her future. She hated her job. She hated defending the Commander in Chief. She's probably pretty lucky with her early severance. And yes, I'm tired of the bemoaning on multiple threads. Why not answer the ones in progress instead of creating yet another?

You going to go to every duplicative thread and piss and moan about it? Or just this one?

I also figure it is laziness not to do a du search for the topic you are posting. But, what ever. You seem to have a lot invested in this woman's story.

Manufacture assumptions as fact, etc, etc.

I just find it interesting she loses her job after publicly calling out the President.

I am not suggesting Obama made a phone call after that event, and said "get rid of her."

However, it is very interesting that those who dare to so publicly call out leadership keep having such bad lick.

People had bad luck during the last dictatorship as well.
