2. I know. I've been thinking along these lines too...I guess we
didn't learn much from what went on all those years ago.

3. I think many are too young to know what we're talking about.
I remember how it came over me in a day, how we were on our own. When was that? Oh, yeah, I remember now.

1968 DEMOCRATIC Convention in Chicago.

I keep hearing, "America, where are you now? Don't you care about your sons and daughters?" all day long it's been driving me batty. But we're not the sons and daughters anymore, are we? We're the adults, and the world is looking just the same, as OP said, all over again.

Wat

5. I missed the '68 convention (I'm 31) but I'm ready to put my ass on the line
I'm tired of passively sitting here complaining about what "should" be done. I am tired of endless voicemails to my representative, emails, and petitions. I'm ready to show up in person and stand and yell, and march, and carry signs, and rant, and rave.

6. Hubert Humphrey in 1968 and George McGovern - 1972,
Will 2008 be a repeat of those dreadful disasters???

I remember sitting in a California college classroom in 1972 at 5 pm (PST)listening to a radio when the word came out - "Richard Nixon is declared the winner."

I heard someone say - "Jesus Christ, I haven't voted yet"

7. About a month ago
I wrote an essay about the summer of 1968, and the Democratic Convention. I was aware while writing it that we are there again today.

9. And Didn't Bobby Jump Into The Race Late, And Shake Things Up In '68???
Hmm...

Who do we have around nowadays that would have that kind of effect?

;)

11. Yep.
RFK was a little late getting in the race. But when he did get in, he started speaking in a way that caught the nation's attention.

8. That's just what I was thinking
"The margin tightened as Peace Democrats began streaming reluctantly back into the Humphrey column"... but of course, it was too late, and thus began the six years leading up to Watergate.

Hey, maybe if we actually nominate a "Peace Democrat" this time, people won't have to "reluctantly stream" into the Dem column!
