1. Manhattan is the center of the civilized universe. Didn't you get the memo?
And anything west of Pittsburgh is out in the boonies.

3. Yesterday, they showed a small brush fire near some mini strip mall in Floriduh.
My jaw dropped. It couldn't have been more than 2-4 acres at the very most. In Floriduh.

4. as dry as it is here in Floriduh,
that little 2-4 acre fire could spread damn fast. Don't diss the state if you're dissing the news service.

8. It was a suburban area in northern Florida.
It ain't national news. I lived in California - where folks joke about earthquakes but NOT about fire - and even there 2-4 arces just isn't news and would only be a side story on the local news. It's news when it spreads. Before that it's no more national news than a fire in a barrel, imho.

9. 300,000 acres have been involved in the georgia/florida fire
all it takes any more is a discarded cigarette to scorch some more. Seriously though, we've been in a drought for the past 5 yrs, the brush is ready to burn at a moments' notice. The winds are up, kinda like the santa annas' though not as fast, it doesn't take a lot to cause a whole bunch of problems. Try to picture how floriduns think about earthquakes.
