I can't believe they replaced Randi with this idiot. He doesn't know anything. He has no idea what's going on this world. His idea of Important News of the Day is a crackpot study claiming finger length determines intelligence. I know LA often veers toward vapid, but this is insane.

she is now live here in LA. She airs between 12 and 3.
But I do agree, Germain is dreadful. He used to be on the local conservative station, KABC...

3. They switched Randi to a live feed in LA so she's now on 12-3 when very |

few people are listening to the radio in their cars. And they gave the drive time slot to this moron who is anti-immigration, calls women "cows", doesn't know anything about current events other than details about Paris Hilton going to jail and the court room theatrics of the Phil Spector trial. They spent an hour yesterday taking calls from people who have gone to nude vacation spots just for anectdotes.

4. Ah. Germain's always been a lightweight. |
|
He's usually one step away from college radio. As a night-time entertainment show he is ok, but drive time is just ridiculous. BTW, he has also been known to insult vegans and cast aspersions on people whose babies died of crib death (SIDS).

Corporate Media. He just makes things up. And people call in to correct his "facts" and he just barrels over them with his false assertions. I really don't understand why he has a job in radio at all, much less, the best slot on the AA affiliate here.

And she's proud of herself for not watching this past season of American Idol.
She knows nothing about world or US politics nor much about anything else, for that matter.

11. He's trying to be topical today by supposedly discussing "The Iraq War" |
|
but all they're talking about is how much money war costs, how much money this "war" costs compared to other wars. No mention of where all this money is going or why it's costing so much...so, speaking of money, how can this guy possibly be brining in more ad revenue than Randi did?

10. I started listening to the Ipod |

on the drive home. It's not that I need constant 24/7 comments on the news of the day. But he never seems to talk about anything interesting. His show isn't liberal, isn't conservative, it's empty. I think it must take upwards of 10 seconds prep-time for him to do this show.

directly from the LA Times and they're basically reading the newspaper on the air and making inane comments about the articles.

I don't mind talking local issues since the rest of the stations content is bluster about Washington politics. But they talk about important things like "How much do YOU earn?" Yes a whole show dedicated to callers callingin and saying what they earn. Gripping radio let me tell you.

13. KTLK totally *ucked up my drive time |
|
Edited on Thu May-24-07 06:56 PM by ariesgem
I turned my mother on to AA a year ago (she loves Randi) and when they recently switched the format to put him in Randi's slot, my mother came home and ranting about this guy and said she's never tuning in again. That day on his show he said Rush Limbaugh & Sean Hannity had a better grasp on the subject of global warming then Al Gore.
I emailed ktlk and told them they just lost 2 listeners.

19. KTLK has a lot of local people--lots of KFI (Clear Channel) alums |
|
Germain used to work with Stephanie Miller at KFI. (His show used to come on right after hers.) Bill Press had a local show on KFI on Sunday mornings, Johnnie Wendell had a weekend show on KFI as well. Bree Walker used to be a newscaster on local TV news.
Wonder if Clear Channel is just playing musical hosts.
(Except for Stephanie who really IS a progressive and is amazingly wonderful.)

I know nothing about Bree Walker other than she has that condition with her hands. I'd prefer listening to her over Germain, if only because I could space out visualizing her hands the entire show.

But I agree with you about Stephanie. She is and has always been my fave.
Sometimes, talk radio stations want local drivetime hosts. Maybe that explains the Randi switch.

I find Steph a bit fluffy, too, but she makes up for it by, at least, being funny. I can see how having someone like Malloy on during drive time might be dangerous as far causing even more road rage during LA rush, but I can't believe this joke is the best they could find in all of LA to take over the slot.

28. Someone must want progressive radio marginalized in LA. |
|
Besides the useless Mr. K, there's around 20 or so hours of paid infomercials for vitamins, colon-cleansing products and so on that they play during the day/evenings on weekends. And that's when programming doesn't get preempted by hockey, basketball or arena football games. San Diego seems to do a lot better with a smaller market. :grr:

29. When he was with the local ultra evil radio stations, he seemed okay |
|
When he was with the fascist ultra right wing stations in town, KFI or KABC, he was one of the very few who didn't sound like a goosestepping Nazi. I thought he might get a little more progressive when he moved to a progressive station. Instead, he seems to have become dumber, sometimes taking positions without any evidence to back him up. I don't listen to him anymore.
I've noticed the same thing with other radio hosts. A guy named Johnny Wendell on the same local Air America station seemed to be pretty impressive as a strong voice from the left at first, usually assigned to week-ends. After awhile, though, I noticed he started covering completely obscure LOCAL topics like the price of sweat socks, neglecting major national political stories. I stopped listening to him. There was a guy I used to listen to years ago on the drive home in the L.A. area named Larry Mantle, who was on a local PBS FM station. His show wasn't political but it seemed to cover many interesting topics, from the latest scientific discoveries to national cultural issues. After he was moved to the morning, he too started covering very obscure matters like sewer service, ones that were only of local concern and I stopped listening entirely.
