My post to GOP YOUCUT site: cut defense to what top three potential adversaries spend COMBINED
Which would still be a hell of a lot less than we spend now.

Cut defense spending to no more than our top three potential adversaries spend combined, so even though we have relatively good relations with Russia, China, and the EU, if any or all of them go bad, we could still kick their ass.

But we don't need to spend as much as we did during the Cold War when our only current enemies on the radar, terrorists, have no navy and only have an air force when they buy a plane ticket and get past security (and often not even then).

1. Sounds good to me.
Then we can use the surplus for education, Single Payer Health care, rebuild our infrastructure, war and criminal trials for the usual suspects that caused this mess in the first place.

Yeah, lets do it.

Let's give Peace a chance.

2. That would save almost 1/2 trillion dollars a year.
So, of course, it will never happen.

3. Because wasteful spending is profitable to defense corporations.

4. I'd also like to point out
The military is the world's single largest purchaser and consumer of petroleum in the US and the world. So if we cut "defense" with a resultant reduction in deployment, we'd free up bocu barrels of oil.

Funny how you never hear that in the MSM...

5. even the military is aware of that, so they are checking out biofuels and hybrids
Hybrids especially make strategic sense since you have to transport fuel to wherever the fighting is, so if you can do the same job with less fuel, it's easier to keep up.

6. So since the military budget is such a sacred pig
Maybe we should task them with providing health care for every one in the US AND the development of alternate sources of energy.

Every time the right tries to cut one of these programs, then, we could all scream about how it would hurt the troops.

7. Well, your suggestion is
just far too sensible to be adopted. How could we continue to line the pockets of the well connected if we adopt your suggestion?
