Bumpersticker on a Jaguar.
Huh? I'm confused.
You'd think somebody who could afford a Jaguar would be smart enough to have noticed that Reagan was dead?

25. Reagan and Reagan's ghost have presided over this country since 1980 |

with their anti-government, pro-taxcut sentiments.
The very modest moves this government made to try to increase government regulation of industry (HC, CC, Financial reforms) and provide more people with health care have spurred a tremendous counter reaction from the Tea Party.
We need the left-wing equivalent of the freedom-loving Tea Party to promote equality of opportunity, fairness and pro-government sentiments or this country will again move rightwards as seems to be happening now.

He raised taxes 8 times. He gave amnesty to 12 million illegal aliens. He was in favor of gun control. He worked to destroy U.S. nuclear weapons. Ronald Reagan: Too Liberal to be President.
OK, the numbers were from the Bureau of Statistics pulled from my rectum, but think about it: He raised taxes, he gave amnesty to illegal aliens, he wrote an editorial in favor of the Brady Bill, and signed a SALT treaty that eliminated nukes. Ronald Reagan is TOO LIBERAL for the current Republican Party. Ricard Nixon is Too Liberal. Dwight Eisenhower is Too Liberal. Four of the last Five Republican Presidents would be Too Liberal for todays GOP.

14. Reagan raised taxes, all right-- on working stiffs |

including FICA taxes. On the other hand, the maximum federal income tax rate went from 70% during Carter's last full year to 28% during Reagan's last full year.
As for granting amnesty to illegal aliens, that was purely a business decision. It just meant that his buddies could legally keep their cheap help.
I never heard of Reagan coming out in favor of gun control-- he certainly never campaigned for it. It was Sarah Brady, the wife of Hinckley's other victim, who made the big push for it. If he wrote an editorial in favor, it was quickly forgotten.
The SALT Treaty did NOT eliminate nukes-- it just retired some of the aging ones, and froze the total number at existing levels. SALT I was signed under Nixon. SALT II was signed by Carter, but was not formally ratified by Congress. Nevertheless, it was adhered to until Reagan unilaterally withdrew in 1986.
And while he was governor of California, he sicced the National Guard on students at Berkeley and campaigned against saving the Redwoods.
Reagan was in no way, shape or form a liberal, even by today's Republican Party standards.

I said he was too liberal by today's GOP standards, not that he was Liberal. I was doing (unsuccessfully, it seems) a spoof of GOP campaign commercials. If he were running today, a GOP* opponent would make hay out of his actions.
His granting of amnesty was to help his buddies, but also to break the United Farm Workers. So, it was anti-union as well as pro-business, a two for one.
*GOP, T-Bagger, Bircher, it's all the same to me.

31. I understand your post was a spoof |
|
but Reagan is like a god to the wacko right-wingers. I don't think a GOP candidate today could make "hay" out of criticizing Reagan's actions.
But I will agree about your appraisal of "GOP, T-Bagger, and Bircher" :)

This was 30 years ago, so my memory of the details is not exactly fresh. It was a "Royal" edition, built to honor, of all things, the wedding of Charles and Diana. Beautiful bike, black and gold. Sounded just like a motorcycle should. I don't even remember if they still had kickstarts by then, but after this incident and further reading in the old Cycle magazine, British bikes were off the radar.
