Sort of like I-Casualties, which tracks our dead soldiers in Iraq & Afgh.

I have NO technical prowess, but if someone here sets it up I will do everything in my power to help it get national attention.

We must shame our "leaders" into doing the right thing.

1. it is an excellent idea. sadly, however, I think our leaders are beyond shame or sense of
connection with "the little people"

2. you could start simple like a Facebook page.
if it gets big there, it will get attention from the media. It's free, and so simple even I can do it.

8. start compiling a list of those known to have committed suicide
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 07:54 PM by Maine-ah
I would even learn something about each one, post the news article and obit if there's one available. After you get your page set up, invite all of your friends. Then go to every news media page and invite them. Invite political pages too :) The network can grow very quickly on FB.

7. I am concerned that the site might actually encourage more suicides.
Edited on Tue Nov-30-10 07:52 PM by madinmaryland
I think it would happen by default, where people would see an opportunity to make a statement by killing themselves and having a venue to do that.

... My friend killed himself this last August by making a big spectacle of it (burning his house down) and hanging himself in the house.

That is why I commented here.

17. That is a very good point.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend. I've heard far too many stories of how people are succumbing to the pressures of living in this country. And the stories keep getting closer and closer to home. On Thanksgiving a friend of mine tried to kill herself and it has really affected me. It seems as if we are living in such a predatory world, with a lot of people wanting the US to become a dog eat dog country. I don't understand the lack of humanity that is oozing out of every pore in those who label themselves as 'right'. It's frightening what our country is becoming.

I wish you well and thanks again for your insightful post...

20. I remember reading your post about your friend.
I hope that she is able to get the help that my friend could not or would not get. People that have mental problems are a very neglected group in this country and have such a difficult time getting help. It does not help that our country has spent 30 years dismantling our mental health care system and making it nearly impossible for those who need it to get the help they need.

Thanks repukes.

13. I'm thinking our overlords would figure that out, and do something ---
although , knowing them, they'd make suicide a capital offense or prosecute the failures into GITMO or confiscate the successful ones' estates.

21. What do you think it might be? Any & all good ideas are welcome.
Bonus points for citing "best practices", i.e., responses that historically have worked to improve employment. Foreign models may be cited, as well as actions and policies upon which the majority of the American electorate agree. See: recent polls.

Lemme know.

23. Unemployed
I have an idea to divert the thoughts of suicide - get to work talking to people, anyone, people on the street, people in stores, people in church, people online - TELL EVERYONE HOW INSANE THE REPUBLICANS ARE AND HOW THE REPUBLICANS HAVE DESTROYED THIS COUNTRY - IF WE ALL DON'T GET THE WORD OUT NOW IT WILL BE TOO LATE TO WAIT UNTIL THE DEMS LOSE ANOTHER ELECTION.
