Wikileaks: The irony of transparency.
One of the most interesting things about Cablegate is how blunt and candid so many of these correspondences are.

One of the reasons they were so honest was because the writers thought they were communicating in confidence.

Now faced with the possibility of private communication becoming public, diplomatic communication will be less candid and less honest. Diplomats will be more careful with their words (maybe they should be), but it may also lead them to avoid saying things that need to be said, or at least couching it in sugar-coated and flowery speech.

I admire Julian's guts, but don't think he really thought this through.
