Common Ground UPDATE: "Senate Republicans Plan To Block Virtually All Democratic-Backed Bills"
Senate Republicans Plan To Block Virtually All Democratic-Backed Bills

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/12/01/gop-obstruction-senate-bills_n_790208.html

WASHINGTON — Senate Republicans intend to block action on virtually all Democratic-backed legislation unrelated to tax cuts and government spending in the current postelection session of Congress, officials said Tuesday, adding that the leadership has quietly collected signatures on a letter pledging to carry out the strategy.

If carried out, it would doom Democratic-backed attempts to end the Pentagon's practice of discharging openly gay members of the military service and give legal status to young illegal immigrants who join the military or attend college.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has made both measures a priority as Democrats attempt to enact legislation long sought by groups that supported them in the recent midterm elections.

A nuclear arms treaty with Russia that President Barack Obama wants ratified would not be affected, since any debate would take place under different rules than those that apply to legislation. Even so, its passage is not assured as Republicans are seeking concessions from the White House.

Officials who disclosed the new Republican maneuver did so on condition of anonymity, saying they were not authorized to discuss it.

4. The secret to getting the Republicans to cooperate is doing exactly what they want
It took a while, but we found the secret.

I wonder how President Obama would conduct himself if he had something to lose, like reelection, or if he's already written that off. For some reason, he sees wisdom in going down this road.

21. It's a proven tactic that every car buyer should adopt
Buyer: "How much is this vehicle?"
Sales Drone: "$20,000"
Buyer: "Well, I was thinking a fair price would be $30,000. Would you accept that?"

5. Quelle Surprise...
When a strategy works so well why stop now? Welcome to two years of absolute government gridlock. We'll have a House more interested in investigations and passing birther bills and defunding agencies than doing anything about unemployment. The Senate will only work on things that slip through the House and without enough GOTB votes those bills will die. In short, the rushpublicans are putting on a full-court press to make this Administration look impotent and the Administration and Democrats have ZERO strategy to counter other than "bipartisanship".

11. Thanks. You inspired yet another letter from me to Obama
Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 08:19 AM by adamuu
I wonder if he will listen.

Mr. President,
Bipartisanship is dead. Please, end this fantasy and put the self-serving Republicans where they belong. They obviously care little about fixing the nation, and care deeply about capturing more power for the sake of more power. You cannot work with this.
As supporting evidence I present two facts. First, there is a Gallup Poll from Nov 16. "What do you think is the most important issue facing the country today?"
While 33% mentioned jobs/unemployment and 14% mentioned non-specific "Dissatisfaction with government", only 3% mentioned "Lack of respect for each other". It's a problem, but the consensus is that our other problems are much more important, especially compared to when you first entered office. Please try to see this. Secondly, AP published this article, today, "Senate Republicans Plan To Block Virtually All Democratic-Backed Bills". It reports that the Republican leadership has been collecting signatures pledging this purely Anti-Obama strategy. When will you realize that there is no hope of working with these people, and that the only thing that can make them behave in the interest of The People is a blunt object?

13. Doubt it
He only listens to Republicans...to hell with the rest of us.

Amazing how we get 12 years of POTUS only listening to Bush's base. Actually, guess it'll be 16 no matter how 2012 turns out.
