You are still the leader of the House. You decide what comes to the floor for a vote. This President is not leading so you must.
Taxcuts for millionaires is not the solution to our economic problems, contrary to what a lot of Democrats are saying. It would be better to let all taxcuts expire rather than follow the dangerous path of the Republicans and, apparently, this President.
The Bush taxcuts were a horrible idea when they first passed in 2001. They are even more horrible now. Yes, most folks in the middle class would have to pay 5% more in taxes but this country is in such a mess that everyone really needs to sacrifice.
Offer the middle class taxcuts up for a vote. Take down the names of all those that vote against them. If the Republicans are successful in spinning it in any other way, that is a gamble worth taking. We will have the names.
But taxcuts for millionaires and below?! Get real. We must have revenue to run this government or we will have fallen prey to the "smaller government" mantra of the conservatives. Don't do it, Nancy. It is up to you. Let the taxcuts expire in entirety if they refuse to vote for the middle class tax cuts. All it takes is a little courage. It is very sad that our President is so lacking in that commodity.

12. Thank you... You managed to put it very nicely. |

I wrote about ten sentences and threw it out... it was a meager attempt to describe the peril this country is in because true leaders never rise to the top anymore and it saddens me also, it doesn't have to be this way. I weep for the world...

how long would the beneficial effects of the higher tax rates on the rich become apparent?
The conventional wisdom is the tax increases are ALWAYS BAD, full stop.
That meme is so powerful that even if the higher rates on the wealthy spurs job growth (for example), the electorate will simply believe what FUX tells them which is that "obama raised taxes" so he must be punished after all he's a taxandspendliberaldemocrat.
Sort of like the majority of folks thinks that Obama RAISED their taxes when actually he CUT them. Reality is what FUX declares it to be.

I would have to say that Nancy has shown to be extremely "conservative" when it comes to issues that might upset_ what the Elite Predator Class considers their entitlement, i.e. to own everything and everyone...

8. I thought all tax bills and spending bills had to pass the House?? |

Is that not correct? True, it has to pass the Senate also but if Nancy does not let it out of the House, it doesn't get to the Senate.

Nancy has busted her ass to get hundreds of bills passed only to be stabbed in the back by the Senate and White House. Now is not the time to be picking on the only one who works for us.

The president never vetoed anything that's passed through that body to his desk, other than the Foreclosure Documents Bill and the Interstate Recognition of Notarizations Act.

. . . over the President. So does the Senate, for that matter.
She's expecting a compromise, just like the President. She''ll bring that compromise (if one emerges in her leadership term) to the House floor and likely vote for it.
