** Senate Republicans DON'T HAVE ALL THE POWER! Light up their phones! **
Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 11:14 AM by Toucano
The Republicans have announced that they are holding all legislation hostage if they don't get their way on tax cuts for the rich.

Everything we hope to accomplish in the remains of the lame duck session will be blocked:

DADT repeal - blocked
START treaty - blocked (on edit: this is being excepted from the blockade)
Unemployment - blocked

Do you have a Republican Senator? I do. I didn't vote for him, but he's one of my Senators.

I am calling to express my outrage at his support of this tactic.

How about if everybody do this? Not just Democrats, but Independents and Republicans as well...

The overwhelming majority of Americans do not support the extension of the tax cuts for the rich.
Start calling and spread the word!

Find phone numbers here: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/directory/congdir.tt

We don't have to take this lying down! Speak Up, America!

1. I guess you didn't get the memo ...
... from the White House.

Yes, apparently we do have to take this lying down.

6. I'm afraid
you're right. Would be a shame to have to divide during the nomination and risk losing the whackjob Republicans. But at some point, we need an opposition to the whackjob Republicans - or what's the point? Maintaining the facade?

7. McConnell's Statement on the floor:
"With just a few weeks to go before the end of the session, Democrats continue to place their own priorities over the priorities of the American people. These are the things Democrats have chosen to do instead of preventing a massive tax hike that economists tell us would stifle the economy.

Republicans have pleaded with Democrats to put aside their wish-list -- to focus on the things Americans want us to focus on. They've ignored us. The voters repudiated their agenda at the polls. They've ignored them. Time is running out. They're ignoring that."

against these tactics. This is becoming incredibly frustrating to watch our leadership continuously fold in the face of such bullshit.

By the way, thank you for making calls. I don't mean to suggest they have no value, but I believe that during battle, and this is a full battle, that we need our leaders in DC to step up and fight for us.

11. Where are you?
You have two Democratic Senators...lucky dog!

Don't you have friends or relatives who aren't so lucky in other states?

We have to stop waiting for someone else to do something and do what each of us can.

Ask your friends and relatives to call their Republican Senators and say NO MORE TAX CUTS for the rich!

18. I quoted the polls that show Americans reject these tax cuts!
For Voinovich, I did the same but added that the unemployed people of Ohio cannot afford to wait for them to play games.
