Tea party leader: Restricting vote to property owners ‘makes a lot of sense’

Tea Party Nation President Judson Phillips said denying the right to vote to those who do not own property "makes a lot of sense" during a weekly radio program.

"The Founding Fathers originally said, they put certain restrictions on who gets the right to vote," Phillips said. "It wasn't you were just a citizen and you got to vote."

"Some of the restrictions, you know, you obviously would not think about today," he continued. "But one of those was you had to be a property owner. And that makes a lot of sense, because if you’re a property owner you actually have a vested stake in the community."

"If you're not a property owner, you know, I'm sorry but property owners have a little bit more of a vested interest in the community than non-property owners."

Approximately 33% of Americans are renters, according to the National Multi-Housing Council.

7. Not the R's, people are in the way, they have no right to a community. They are only
of value if they have lots of money and can give huge contributions to make the politicians rich. Being a citizen in this country denies you rights, being a corporation gives you rights as we witness the unraveling of America.

5. you also had to be a white male
I don't get how they can talk about freedom and how various things oppress and enslave them, then turn around and suggest such garbage as this. Of course the obvious answer is that is more of the same effort to disenfranchise lower income Americans. Why should we have any rights?

Asshole.

6. Ah, how they pine for a return to the Caste System. Only
property owners vote. Oh my goodness, these unwashed
masses should not be voting--what do they know???

It is not enough we already have an Aristocrasy in which
the Ruling Class (Elites) run the show while the Media
convince us this is what we want.
