I Just Called Both Of My Senators
Edited on Wed Dec-01-10 02:39 PM by Timbuk3
"If the only thing the Democrats accomplish before the end of the year is ending the tax cuts for incomes above $250K I will vote for them again."

I told them I’m currently on unemployment and that I’d give up an extension if it means the tax cuts on income above $250K expires. I added that I’d rather have them ALL expire than see the cuts for income above $250K extended, even "temporarily". I said the Democrats need to give us a VICTORY on this issue or they’re going to lose even more votes.

Please take 5 minutes to call your own senators.

2. My senators don't give a damn. Several hundred thousand could call them,
they just don't care. It's not worth the effort, it's a failed system. And the voters here are too stupid to vote in better senators.

8. After 10 years of doing that it starts to get a little lame. The F'en people
here love their R's. I'm the one that needs to get out and find a better more intelligent state to live in ...

9. My apologies
Yeah, I can understand why calling an "R" is a futile waste of time.

They will obstruct EVERYTHING except making life better for the wealthy and worse for the rest of us.

My sympathies to those who live in "red" states. Your lives are about to take a turn for the worse.

11. Thanks and very appreciated. This place has turned so red it defines a
whole new color of red at the local, county, state and federal level. In part of the state the wealthy vote solidly red, and in the other part of the state the people are too remote and/or too ignorant to vote anything but red. They do what Fox tells them to do.

Our senators have told me as such in their letters to me they don't care what I think. We had one blue dog congressman that was not that bad, but even he is gone now, as well as our dem governor. It's all just about solidly red.

I look forward to some miserable years here if I even stay. The message to me is to get out of the state.

17. Same here! I know how you feel.
I wrote mine an e-mail anyway; told them I knew my request would be ignored but at least I spoke up for my family.

Find an example of obscene wealth on the Internet (I chose Tiger Woods) & cite it in your e-mail, comparing it to poor families who depend on services they've worked for. Ask them when did this country, with such shallow priorities, lose its soul? Show them that you're aware of the cruelty of their intentions & that, at the very least, you will have spoken up in protest.

21. Yeah ...
It's all PRESIDENT Obama's fault! Because he's not advancing progressive legislation ... nevermind, the fact that that is the job of congress; the President doesn't get a single vote on any legislation, nor can he write the legislation.

But it's still all PRESIDENT Obama's fault.

22. actually in this case it is
We had a Democratic Governor. She was in her 2nd term and faced a term limit. I was confident that she would run for the Senate and that she would win.

Then what happened? Obama took her to be Secretary of HHS. That is his fault. He stole my Democratic Senator. At least there was a good chance.

10. I sure tried!
I think Voinovich has his phone off the hook. I just got on to email his office instead. I did talk to Senator Brown's office and even called Charlie Wilson's and the White House. Pretty bad when I got through to the White House in two tries and can't get anything but a busy signal from Voinovich.

16. I sent e-mails after reading your OP.
One to a thug (Vitter) & the other to a DINO (Landrieu).

I can't imagine why congress would choose to make cuts to Social Security & Medicare, which would break the backs of the middle class, elderly, & poor. At the same time, congress is eagerly & enthusiastically pushing for tax cuts for million- & billionaires which will cost this country $750 billion that it will have to borrow for that giveaway.

While congress wants to take away from families already strained, it wants to provide wealthy people like Tiger Woods more mansions & expensive cars.

When did this country become so unwise & cruel?

I know this will be ignored, but at least I know I spoke up for my family.

24. I like that ...
setting up that subtle faustian choice thing ... benefitting the rich, even if it means helping a Black guy! I suspect when you put it out there like that, many on the right will have to pause and swallow a long time.

25. My using Tiger Woods as an example was due to the recent article I read about
his new bachelor "pad" in Florida worth $50 million. See what you will in my using a "black man" as an example. Millionaires are millionaires, regardless of their race.

:dunce:

26. I agree ...
millionaires are millionaires regardless of their race; but can you imagine the trepidation that the teapartier must face when they wake up and realize that they are actively benefitting one of "them" ... and not themselves?

And if Vitter took it that way, GOOD!

27. I did too. For those in IL, if our new Senator Mark Kirk's # in DC is busy
I finally discovered his office number in IL (transitioning has made it hard for anyone to locate his new office).

It's a Chicago number - (312) 886-3506.

Kirk's gone completely teabagger so I also told him I wanted ALL of the tax cuts to expire to bring down the deficit. I said that would ensure everyone was participating in doing the responsibility thing to help reduce the deficit. While this isn't exactly what I believe, and I'm not sure anything will reach him, I thought if I tied my request to the deficit, maybe the message would go through.

Good luck. Like many, I don't believe that our voices mean shit to any of them but I just have to try.

28. I live in Texas so it's useless for me to call mine :(
Kay Bailey Huthinson and John Cronyn are nothing but political prostitutes to the rich and business. I gave up calling them long ago after many futile attempts to even be listened to. I'm not saying this to discourage others from contacting their senators though. Maybe you have senators who actually represent the people.
