The repubicans are back in charge of the government. They appear to be well positioned to control the agenda and to control what happens.

Maybe its time to just take a break, ignore politics for a while, and just watch Happy Teevee. Or buy some porn. Maybe just cook and enjoy some new wines.

:snap:

Ooooo! Ooooo! Wait. I got it! Travel brochures. Internet searches about permanent relocation. Belize. Costa Rica. How about even someplace like Argentina?

Yep. It looks like its going to be a swell two years ahead.

Can a person survive in Belize on nothing but Social Security? Maybe I can open a hot dog stand on the beach and sell to the rich American tourists who will come down to gawk at the lowlife expats.

Do they make repubican voodoo dolls?

Is it easier to take standing or bent over?

Ya know what I hate? I hate when we're in a Depression and so many people call it a recession. Yeah. I know. Technically, it involves so many successive quarters. Whatever.

I heard a Judd Gregg sound bite on the radio today. You all remember the good Senator Gregg. The guy who was offered a hand of friendship by a naive president and gave him back a fuck you and a bloody stump. That Judd Gregg. I have always wondered what rocket scientist did the vetting on that appointment before they went public with it.

Oh yeah. I wanna shout out to Franklin and Lyndon. Great jobs, you guys. Too bad the team couldn't hold back the wrecking ball.

Ah fuck it. There's always tomorrow, right?

Go. Team.

I'm trying this post again. Somehow my last attempt ended up as an OP and created an online gigglefest.

4. All this is happening with 59 strong caucus in the Senate and a 40 seat majority in the House
it's like losing a tug of war against the guys who had only 2/3 of their team show up to pull.

unconscionable.

26. That would be a better excuse...but it's really about 5-10 in the Senate
and frequently just 1-3.

geez.

. . . the republicans will 'control' a mouthpiece in their control of the House and nothing more. The Senate and the President still have the last say on any legislation republicans manage to squeak out. In many ways, the last election set us up for two years of nothing but campaigning for the next one. The republicans in the House will provide the perfect foil for our Democratic initiatives and they will be forced to put their anti-worker, anti-working class initiatives on display with their name on the front of them.

Maybe folks can get back to fighting republicans rather than reflexively flogging our own party at every opportunity.

6. International House Hunters
featured Sunny Portugal. I haven't watched it yet. My life is consumed with Ed, Tweety, Keith, Rachel, Larry O'D. Or Media Matters, Daily Kos, DU, PFAW. (sigh) This is my life.

Life was simple with Bill in office. Who cares about blow jobs and all that jazz.

I'll make the bacalhau and help you with the dishes. We can grow our own veggies in the 'orta'.

I visited some cousins there oh my, about 35 years ago! Way up in Porto. The men at that time were such chauvinists. Hope that's changed.

18. I lived on the Costa del Sol for 6 months in '74...
in a town of a thousand people. Every Sunday the bar at the end of the road would serve paella. The saffron grew in the hills, the chicken was slaughtered that day, and the husband who was the fisherman would bring in the squid, shrimp, mussels and clams.

It was served with a local house red wine, and you knew that you had approached Heaven's door.

23. Bet there weren't a lot of conveniences back then
but, ahh the good life. Low stress. Wine and bread, long lazy Sunday dinners.

I can hear my Mom singing Portuguese. Not 'Fado', too much heartache. She sang up beat, fun songs. Now I sing them for the grands. They look at me like I'm nuts.

wouldn't it be fun to think about a bunch of DU'ers moving to either Spain or Portugal in the same city or area. Let's go commune! A fantasy but, what the heck. Takes the stress a few notches down.

We women have it together, we need some good fishermen. :bounce:

17. Health care in Costa Rica is marginally better than here...
...according to some international study I saw a year or so ago. This study ranked the world's health care systems by the usual benchmarks...outcomes, universal availability...life span, infant mortality, and the US, if I remember correctly, came in 34th. Costa Rica was 33rd.
Just in case you're thinking of moving down there..

28. Jugghead Gregg (R - Arrogant) is famous for throwing a sick widow from her home
in the dead of a Granite State winter.

Jugghead has a wicked bad case of Republicon Family Values -- and so his lowlife escapades are to be expected.
