Veteran Accused Of Stalking Westboro Baptist Church Members
WICHITA, Kan. -- A decorated Army veteran was arrested Tuesday after he followed members of the Westboro Baptist Church in a vehicle, and the vehicle was found stocked with guns and ammunition, the Wichita Eagle reported.

KAKE-TV said the wounded veteran, Ryan Newell, 26, of Marion, was booked on charges of stalking and false impersonation. Newell’s bond was set at $500,000, the television station reported.

KAKE-TV reported that the Sedgwick County sheriff said Newell told authorities he was providing security for the church members, who were participating in a protest at a nearby high school. Newell reportedly said he was a reserve law enforcement officer from another county.

Newell lost both his legs in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan, the television station reported.

The Wichita Eagle said a person close to the investigation said more than 90 rounds of ammunition, a rifle and a handgun were found in the suspect’s vehicle.

1. Wow, it's a strange world we live in when I find myself cheering for an armed stalker.

2. Wow. I can only imagine how things might have gone differently. I can't stand WBC
but that could have gone very, very badly.

I hurt for this man, all the pain he must be in.

3. I cannot, deep in my heart, condemn him. Partly because no one was hurt, and
partly because those filthy motherfuckers deserve to live in fear until the day the last one of them dies.

7. Yeah, should have been written: "... less than 100 rounds."
When I was little boy, I'd go through 100 rounds in no time flat, if shooting at tin cans.

14. I feel weird about them. The majority of them are clearly abused and brain washed, cult victims
despite doing heinous things themselves. But how much can you blame people who have been brain washed since birth?
