Holder lets another Republican off the hook...anyone got a running score?
Ensign's lawyers say he's no longer Justice target

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Justice Department is no longer targeting Sen. John Ensign in a criminal investigation arising from his affair with a former campaign aide and has no plans to charge him, attorneys for the Nevada Republican said Wednesday.

The department has been looking into whether Ensign conspired with staff aide Doug Hampton, the husband of the woman with whom Ensign was involved, to violate federal lobbying restrictions.

When Hampton found out about the affair, Ensign helped line up jobs for Hampton with campaign donors. Federal criminal law bars former Senate aides from lobbying in the Senate for a year after they leave their congressional jobs.

At around the same time, Ensign's parents provided the Hamptons with $96,000 that they described as a gift.

1. I'm sure justice was served
You can't disturb the spirit of bipartisanship with minor issues like that.

There probably was not enough evidence to have a trial. Do you want them to plant evidence?

4. Not going to jump on the bandwagon because
the mere suggestion that someone can be prosecuted won't do. Maybe there are people against whom there is real evidence.

Just because I don't agree with Republicans does not mean I want to spend a lot of time and energy trying to find ways to prosecute them (though they would do it to us). that's how they waste our time and energy - not interested in stooping to that level. If there were enough evidence against him, they'd do it.

Second guessing every HOlder decision with appropriate knowledge would take tons of time. I'll let Holder decide.

15. Add Alaska's representative Don Young
who was under investigation for about four years (with over a million in attorney's fees), but was let off the hook right before the election.
