Pelosi rips 'grossly unfair' GOP approach to taxes, jobless benefits

____ Speaking (in a rare floor speech Thursday) in support of a Democratic bill that would extend the Bush tax cuts for only the middle-class, Pelosi said Republicans have taken a hypocritical stance by demanding unemployment assistance be paid for while supporting $700 billion tax cuts for high-income earners.

"This is so grossly unfair," Pelosi said.

Before Pelosi delivered her speech, Speaker-designate John Boehner (R-Ohio) called the vote on the middle-class cuts "chicken crap."

Pelosi said Republicans — who prefer to permanently extend all the cuts — have shown they are not interested in creating jobs.

"Now, I think we should use a measure for everything we do: 'What does it do to create jobs?'" Pelosi said. "Giving $700 billion to the wealthiest people in America increases the deficit, and the record shows that it does not create jobs."

2. Thank you, Speaker Pelosi
Is that such a difficult concept? The Republicans refuse to extend unemployment benefits, saying they aren't paid for, but they have no problem larding another $700 billion onto the deficit so they can give their overrich pals a big Christmas smooch of a tax cut extension. Somehow, the argument in its simplicity and elegance is just too much for the poor dears in the popular media to quite get a handle on. It's too complicated for the poor dears, bless their hearts, but they can tell you chapter and verse why cap-and-trade is the Worst Idea Ever in the History of the World.

4. Big fucking deal.
They still won, they always do. We had a million people in the street protesting the start of a war by a Repuglican president that is still being carried on by a Democratic president. We wanted a public option by more than 70%, but didn't get one.

When one team wins every single time, the other team is just the Washington Generals.
