Quick facts about the Bush tax cuts for the “rich”

Did you know that on January 1, 2011 the personal income tax rate for the lowest tax bracket will rise 50% from 10% to 15%?

Did you know that on January 1, 2011 the personal income tax rate for the next highest bracket - 25% - will rise to 28%?

Did you know that on January 1, 2011 the personal income tax rate that is now 28% will rise to 31%?

Just who’s raising these taxes? That would be the Democrats by allowing the Bush tax cuts for the “rich” expire on December 31, 2010. If Bush only cut taxes for the rich, where did the 10%, 25%, and 28% tax rates come from? It seems to me there aren’t many “rich” people in the lowest tax bracket.

And btw, the marriage penalty will be making a much-heralded liberal comeback along with a rise in the capital gains rate (you know, the one for the 100 million “rich” people who own stock) from 15% to 20%.

As a business owner I just got screwed as all I do is pay taxes and emplyee 200 hard working Americans. Down from about 250 at the peak when business was doing well. Perhaps I need to close my doors and only worry about my family surviving instead of the 200 hard work employees who are trying to support their families.

Would the demorats notice one less American business? I know that answer is no. I am 4th generation in a family business. Do I need the hassles of supporting the gov any more? I do it for my employees and their families. But I wonder why when at the end of the day all I owe is taxes and taxes. Maybe my time in business is up.

Thank you Nancy for helping to destroy my business and the employeement of 200 hard working Americans. You say i’m rich so you want to tax me out of business.

4. They really want A tax break for everyone? Then only reduce the rate on only the lowest bracket.
Edited on Thu Dec-02-10 06:09 PM by bullimiami
EVERYONE gets that.

What they are demanding in their ignorance includes a 2nd tax break for the middle bracket and an additional 3rd tax cut for the highest bracket.

So to be correct

Everyone gets at least one tax break, same exact break.
Some are lucky enough to get 2 tax breaks. The so called Middle Class Tax Cut
Some small few, those making so much as to be in the highest tax bracket, get 3 tax breaks. Everyones + Middle Class + Their own special break.

And its that 3rd tax break that is all or nothing to the powerful who have brainwashed their followers.

What a dumb ass. OK so he has 250K in sales. Two employees @ say 30K. Add in insurance, rent, auto, utilities, accounting etc etc another 50k maybe. Then there is the cost of supplies say a restaurant..you pay for food, retail pay for inventory...you don't get sales without selling something that you pay for (yes i know there are exceptions) So add 50K. We are now up to 160K and that is if they don't take a salary themselves. So you pay tax on the PROFIT!!!!!!!!!!!! DUMB ASS. Go ahead and fire someone and see how much you make then silly tea boy. YOUR TAXES HAVE DEFINITELY GONE DOWN DURING OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

20. Taxes are not punishment
Edited on Thu Dec-02-10 08:17 PM by quaker bill
The money is not stolen. The feds do not burn the money collected, in fact they put more money back into the economy than they take out, this is why we have a deficit.

No one who knows how to run a business hires or lays people off because of tax rates. They might charge more for the products, but if they have productive and profitable work for 10 people, they hire 10 people. Taxes do not impact the basic profitability of hiring people because federal taxes are only collected on profits that exist and only represent a portion of those profits. Profits are the money left over when salaries, benefits, and expenses are paid.

When one hires someone and the expense is say $20 an hour for all costs to include salary, one sets prices for the work to at least $21 and hour, more likely $25 and hour or better. At $25 an hour, I make $5 for every hour the person works. At the current highest tax bracket, I get to keep $3.20 an hour as after tax profit, roughly $6400 a year, under the new tax rates, I would only get to keep $3.02 an hour, roughly $6000 a year. If I have work for 10 people, I keep roughly $60,000 a year. If I have work for 20, $120,000 a year. Now, if the person does not have and is not doing profitable work, I pay nothing in taxes, and I likely lay the person off anyway.

Taxes are precisely irrelevant.

If low taxes attract and grow businesses, why havent all the businesses moved to long term consistent low tax haven states, like Florida? Why are any of these businesses still located in the northeast? It is really simple, the observed results are true because taxes are not relevant to such decisions.

26. AMEN AND HALLEJULAH!!!
The sad fact though is that 99.9% of Freepers, and the idiots who think like Freepers even more than a few nanoseconds a day, have insulated themselves from reason and constructive argument. The REALLY sick thing is Obama though. I KNOW freepers just don't get it, but I heard Obama promise to end the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy as a method of attacking the deficit. I watched Obama at the 2008 St. Louis rally under the Arch talk about all the things he would FIGHT FOR as president.

If he allows the tax cuts for the wealthy to be extended AT ALL, I am done with him. I will not vote for him if he caves on this. I will not volunteer for any Democratic candidate who supports or fails to heavily pummel the president after such a caving. I will actively campaign against any Democrat who DOES go along with the caving on this final issue.

Up to now, the argument with or for Obama and his policies has been more of degree than kind. Sure he got Health Care, but it was watered down and not close to what is needed ultimately. Sure he "supports" repeal of DADT and DOMA, but just don't expect him to, you know, DO anything about that. Sure he "closed" Gitmo....except for, oh, I don't know, all the prisoners and guards and staff that are STILL there now. He said he would "address" Afghanistan and he IS sending MORE troops and money to the meat grinder...

In all of those cases, Obama can (falsely at times, honestly at others) make claims to fulfilling campaign promises to a certain degree....the second he puts pen to paper on any bill that does NOT return tax rates on the highest bracket to the 2000 levels, well then he officially becomes a 100% through and through, balls to bones LIAR. I will create my own viral internet videos that simply loop his campaign speeches and rhetoric over images of him signing the bill.

27. So, you would vote for Palin instead?
or just sit home and allow her to win? Get real.

President Obama would have closed Gitmo, but where do the prisoners go? While our prisons handle all sorts of very dangerous people, apparently terrorists are too much for the system, and no one will take them. It is stupid, but true. Further, Gitmo ain't what it used to be.

Personally, I am with you, I would prefer he hold the line on taxes and let them all go up unless he get the bill he wants.

Afghanistan? No President is leaving Afghanistan without OBL's hide tacked to a wall. Obama said he would finish our business there, if you did not pick up that this meant more troops, you weren't paying attention. As good as we may have become interrupting terrorist plots, given enough time, sooner or later, they will get one through. We simply can't be looking everywhere all the time. If OBL is alive and gloating over it when it happens, this will be the political end for the party in power at the time. No President will risk this outcome, so we will keep shooting until we get him.

Personally, I am a pacifist, but I have never carried any illusions about this, and was never anything but certain that this was the path Obama would follow. There is no viable alternative for a President, Republican, Democrat, of Independent.
