LOOKS LIKE WE'VE GOT OUR 2012 SLOGAN: REPUBLICANS VOTED AGAINST MIDDLE-CLASS TAX CUTS
Edited on Thu Dec-02-10 10:33 PM by coti
I still don't think they will actually block it in the Senate. They can't be that dumb- right?

But, I can tell you that the 188 Republicans (and conserva-dems) who voted AGAINST middle-class tax cuts- who voted to let them expire- in the House are already in BIG trouble in 2012.

It will be long forgotten by then.

32. That's the route they're going. Pelosi declared it by holding the vote and Reid said he's holding a
cloture vote Saturday.

This is what they're doing. It's the right thing- and it's amazing that I'm seeing people pulling back now, like they're not up for the fight now.

They should have just voted for it and avoided the nasty campaign meme.

7. That's not what happened. What happened was, the Republicans voted against
middle-class tax cuts. Democrats didn't vote against any tax cuts at all.

Don't get into arguments about it, but the cuts for the rich could have come up later and been voted on in the new year. It's just that the Republicans want to ATTACH their tax cuts for millionaires to the cuts for the middle class. Let them explain that part.

12. but that's not what they are saying.
they say they wanted to continue the current tax rates for all income ranges.

You can hear them now whining about how small businesses, farmers and job creators will be punished by a tax increase. I'm just getting sick of the whole political process. I'll be pissed off at both sides of the aisle until someone starts fixing the damn problems.

13. Of course it's not what they're saying, but they're not giving an answer as to why
they voted against middle-class tax cuts.

What do taxes on other people- rich people, and not small businesses, either, as this is an income issue- have to do with middle-class tax cuts?

Just ask the pointed questions that need to be asked

5. Their spin: By voting for TAX CUTS for the middle class...
Democrats are actually voting for TAX INCREASES on small businesses... since the millionaire bonuses are not included in the extension. I kid you not. They must think the American public is stoooopid. They're not ... are they?

9. How much would these 'middle class' tax cuts put in someone's pocket?
This seems like the lamest issue in the world

"Tax cuts" on wages that have eroded and stagnated to near poverty levels for several decades. People are out of work, running out of employment benefits, losing their homes, can't access healthcare, and there's virtually no safety net.

What will a coupla bucks do?

46. $1,000 a year - yeah, that does make a difference
Today, House Democrats led the charge to pass tax cuts for 97 percent of families and small businesses – saving a ‘typical’ middle-class family roughly $1,000 a year. This legislation now is headed to the Senate, which must act before tax relief for middle-class families expires at the end of the year.

The Middle Class Tax Relief Act of 2010 cuts taxes for “all families making less than $250,000 a year,” and:

The bill permanently extends the 2001/2003 tax cuts, including current tax rates, marriage penalty relief (including EITC), capital gains and dividends rates, and $1,000 child tax credit (for earnings above $3,000). The bill also protects more than 25 million taxpayers from the alternative minimum tax by extending the AMT patch through 2011 and permanently extends small business expensing.

Today's vote passed by a count of 234-188. Congressional Republicans have refused to vote for middle-class tax cuts unless Democrats agree to a permanent extension of the Bush tax cuts for millionaires and billionaires.

The Democratic Party has this as their latest 'breaking news' on their website. I'm glad to see them using it. In a couple of years, maybe DUers will see it's good to use too. I think people could describe the Republican position as 'attempted blackmail' if we want to toughen the message up a bit.

10. "Republicans say they are for tax cuts... (said in stern voice over)
yet they voted against tax cuts for millions of hard working middle class families. Their excuse? They wanted to send a message that tax cuts for millionaires was the most important thing to them, even more important than giving the huge majority of Americans tax relief. Republicans, they are not on your side"

I can just see the commercial already.

Edited on Thu Dec-02-10 11:03 PM by coti
You're not lying! That's what they did!

Yeah, they had a REASON why they did it, but it wasn't a good one! It was because they're trying to attach tax cuts for millionaires- which haven't created jobs in 10 freaking years- to the tax cuts that actually HELP our country!

Don't let 'em do it!

For fuck's sake! Why is it so fucking difficult with Democrats in getting them to "play" this dumbass game called politics right?

You're on the right side, do it right. Jeebus.

They didn't vote against middle class tax cuts, they voted against tax increases on small business since most small businessmen/women make over $250,000 a year and create 80% of the jobs in this country, gotta learn how to spin.

17. "...gotta learn how to spin"- Yeah, that's some really GREAT spin, there.
If you aren't a Democrat.

This isn't even spin. This is exactly what happened. They voted against the middle-class tax cuts because they KNOW there's no way to get the cuts for the rich passed on their own.

That's what they did. Is there something wrong with just saying what happened?
