Freepers respond to NASA new life-form discovery |
|
Out of curiosity, I waded into their cesspool to search specifically for what right wingers thought of this new discovery (after spending a nice chunk of time reading about it here, and learning a lot from so many smart folks who know way more about this stuff than I!).
So, there's a topic over there with 138 comments. The first 137 were pre-announcement, mostly bitching about how much NASA "sucks" or wants more money or whatever, sprinkled liberally with religious comments.
The final post, #138, was this. "Arsenic. What a letdown."
No further replies.
The plainly anti-intellectual, utterly incurious (and proud of it) nature of these people never ceases to amaze me. Unbelievable.

1. While it is a huge deal |
|
if you know nothing about science, I can see how this isn't that big of a deal. Its not like they found this life on another planet, and even if they did the right wingers would just say we have to destroy it because god obviously didn't create it so it must be evil.

Even if they somehow get the importance of the new discovery, they are likely to proclaim it ungodly and evil - hence it should be destroyed.

2. To their credit, most people don't get it |

How big this is. I need some more data to input numbers into the Drake equation...
I wonder if they will update the app

A bunch of idiots spouting pseudo-scientific, meaningless comments.
The general consensus of the group is "bacteria that can live in arsenic. big deal.".
*sigh*
